The motor to engage the the 4wd is acting up again. The first time it acted up, I cleaned the connection by the motor and that fixed the problem. The problem started again so I cleaned the connection really good and sealed it with electrical grease. This worked for a couple of weeks. Now the lights are flashing again. I talked to the dealer and they said that the connection down at the motor cannot be changed because it is part of a body harness, which means it is part of the main "spine" of wires for the truck. If I wanted to replace it I would have to rewire everything. That is not an option. I don't think replacing the motor will help b/c that will only give me half of the clean connection I need. Has anyone ever cut out the connector and just hardwired the motor? Is there something that I can do to fix this without hardwiring?
someone has to have a suggestion or something?

there is no reason why you cannot replace the wiring and connector. Solder all the connections and heat shrink, then seal with electrical tape, then cover with conduit.
I doubt your problem is the connection at the plug, the shift actuator (motor) probably needs to be rebuilt, see here:

Look under T cases.
Dont always believe the dealer, they dont know as much as they think they know........

What's the sequence of the flashes??? 6 flashes repeated every few minutes is generally a code for the Speed Sensors on the T/F case being bad. If that the flashes you are getting, try cleaning them first and reset the computer.
i am getting 5 flashes. if i am able to clean the connection and everything works ok, then that should be the problem right?......the connection. i dont want to replace the motor only to have a new one not work because of a half dirty connection. this explorer is starting to be a PITA.
