CarFreak146 09-29-2003, 01:37 AM nice bumper...... AND hood!!! NOTAJP 09-29-2003, 02:18 AM Thanks, I wish the pic was better quality so you could really see it. Josh S. 09-30-2003, 08:16 PM Here's mine. You can't tell in the pic, but it needs a new paint job:( NOTAJP 09-30-2003, 09:05 PM That's nice Josh. Josh S. 09-30-2003, 10:13 PM Thanks bro! Our explorers kinda look like each other. I dig that hood. Where'd you get that? Dragster style or sumthin. Bumper is sweet too. NOTAJP 09-30-2003, 10:31 PM Hood (http://www.up22.com) The price was great and the quality is very good too. That's funny our Xs do look alike. I almost went that route with my front suspension before I decided on the SAS. Webster3 09-30-2003, 10:34 PM Originally posted by NOTAJP Here's the James Duff pre-runner winch mount for the 1st Gens. I couldn't find this style of bumper on James Duff's site... is this new? Ed NOTAJP 09-30-2003, 10:43 PM I've had this bumper since spring. They do not show this particular bumper on their webesite or the catalog. For some reason they STILL don't update anything. I ordered the pre-runner winch bumper and this is what I got. We went rounds about this issue before I finally decided to just keep it. I really wanted the 'true pre-runner look' winch bumper but it is no longer available. Webster3 09-30-2003, 10:47 PM It's not bad looking, but a little more "pre-runner-ish" would have been nice. This one looks mean... which is cool too. :-) Ed NOTAJP 09-30-2003, 10:51 PM I may end up cutting up this one and moving the winch back towards the frame and welding it up to look more like a pre-runner style bumper. Or just start from scratch as soon as I get a tube bender but that won't be until I paint this thing. RockRanger 09-30-2003, 11:31 PM do a search for brian1 he has a very nice bumper he built. One of the nicest I have seen. Matt Maniak 10-01-2003, 05:01 PM Not a fancy bumper.. but here is the bumper we made... the lower tube goes between the frame rails only.. This helped the approach angle.. Yes I've used my highlift jack as a bumper for the bumper.. I hope to have the rear bumper done soon so I can finally get my highlift off the front. http://mark.legendz.com/explorer/truckhaven/closeup%20of%20front%20bumper.jpg ~Mark Brian1 10-01-2003, 06:09 PM Originally posted by RockRanger do a search for brian1 he has a very nice bumper he built. If you could let me know where you bought this or the basics of how you built it i'd really appreciate it. AlaskanJack 10-15-2003, 11:27 PM Here is a bumper I bought from Kirby http://www.msnusers.com/_Secure/0bgAAAAchq0Tkk*yM4Q4iNI9k2ihp4cayu1QqeTU8Jo0*!!m6*2Io3At7knx7b6S9L9T5El7ccWr6ipvK0h12SEf8MyAM0TZGlaC cF2c4krFCc!YA3*kPdSv8nC7g*aTyj5eeECIfo1i2vUyVuDJQtgQCJVYUUAus/Charlies%20bachelor%20party%20may%202003%20010.jpg?dc=4675425638032345933 AlaskanJack 10-15-2003, 11:29 PM MSN Sucks!!!! Josh S. 10-16-2003, 07:58 PM Originally posted by MuddyHarris#8 Josh S. where did you get/how did you build that front bumper and skid plate..its really cool and exactly what i've had in mind. If you could let me know where you bought this or the basics of how you built it i'd really appreciate it. I had a buddy from the board build the bumper for me at his house, then I went down to the metal shop with a cardboard cutout for the skidplate, and they cut it out of .125 aluminum. The bumper was made out of .120 wall 1.5" ERW tubing. A JD2 tubing bender was used, and a Lincoln Weldpac 100 flux-cored welder. I am in the proccess of reinforcing a couple spots on the bumper right now, so I can jack the truck off it without it flexing. I finished one side, but still have to do the other. I am putting in a tube on each side that goes to the frame and to the end of the tubes that wrap around. Its basically one tube wrapping around the front of the truck. There is a bar going between the framerails in the front, with two little downtubes going down, supporting the main bar. There is also a crossbar underneath, that two more downtubes go to, to support the skidplate. The skidplate is bolted onto 4 tabs. If you need more pics or whatever, lemme know. Hope this helped. MuddyHarris#8 12-16-2003, 06:07 PM Josh S. thanks that is helpful but if you could post some more pictures or email them to me at James62186@hotmail.com that would be great, I'd like to see what it looks like from underneath and the side, I think i understand whats happening underneath but i'm not sure, so if you could help me out that'd be great. Thanks a lot, its a really nice lookin set up you have. How much did that run you for the parts? Josh S. 12-17-2003, 05:21 PM thanx for the compliments man...what parts are you referring to for prices? I've probly invested over 5k so far, with much more to come this next summer and winter break when I can make some serious $$$. I'll do my best to snap some pics...tonight hopefully, if I remeber to bring the digi cam home from work:) MuddyHarris#8 12-18-2003, 07:04 PM I was just talking bout the parts you used to build the bumper/skid plate. I wanted to add something like that after I finish my SAS and Spring over in the rear, i thought it'd be a nice finishing touch. So I was wondering about how much all that ran you and was hoping i could get some more pictures of it. Josh S. 12-18-2003, 07:56 PM Well I bought 75' of tubing for some reason, and that was like ~$70. We only ended up using about 15' for the bumper, so I guess like $20 of tubing. The metal for the skidplate costed me ~$15. Soooo, about $35 total. The dude that basically did all of it had a $500+ bender though, so I guess you can factor that in too:D Josh S. 12-18-2003, 08:09 PM here's underneath, hopefully this is a good enuf pic. The tabs are for the skidplate. Its a bit different now, with a skidplate with holes drilled in it, 2 PIAA Pro580XTs, and side reinforcement for highlifting... MuddyHarris#8 12-19-2003, 10:41 PM Thanks a lot, that helped me out a lot more, and i hope you don't mind but i think i'm gonna do a little copying of this whole set up, except i might use two thicker tube bars to run across the front but use the same set up for everything else, it looks awesome man i just think i might add a little of my own style so i won't be a complete loser by copying you. I visited your site by the way and thats some good stuff ya'll have...I might go out west this spring it'd be nice to meet up for a weekend trail ride or something. i hear nothing but good stuff from out west. Josh S. 12-22-2003, 02:07 AM I don't mind at all dude, sounds like you got some good plans in your head for how it'll all go together. Yah come on out one of these days and we'll go hit the trails!:D |
