Looks much, much better... and safer.

About 3 months ago I did pads and rotors all around and they squeek like crazy. Why would they still squeek? I thought it went away after a day or two.

Mine were just as bad when I got the '93 ... I swear that whoever owned it before me ACTUALLY sprayed the rotors and drums with coke !

The funny part was, new rotors at autozone are $35 each, and drums are $37 ... The last owner should have just replaced 'em ...

On a side note, I was able to do them myself, and feel quite good about it. Without the help from guys on here, I'd be throwing out an anchor to stop my X ...

the breaks will squeak if u do not surface the rotar to meet the pads thats why some peps take it to shops to do u can try a little green gell u can get from cragens auto zone might help but if its really bad then u have to surface it.

o yah how long have u had those abused rotors on? lol u drove those into the ground lol

frickea86
11-01-2003, 04:26 PM
lol, yes u can say we drove the rotors into the ground. they have 87k on them when i took them off. the passenger side was rusted to mouting bracket for the lugs and i had to use a 8inch pully puller to get it off. i would give it a crank and then beat the crap out of it with a hamer, after about doing this 3 or 4 times she poped right off. that was the only trouble i had with them, i was greatfull....

I ended up going for -

2 Rotors
2 Frnt Calipers
2 Front Brake lines
New Pads
New Wheel Bearings

2 Drums
2 Wheel Cylinders
New Rear Hardware ( springs/clips/etc )
2 Pop Brake Cables ( Most expensive parts )
New Shoes

I lucked out and didn't have any trouble. I'm shocked ....

Got 186K on the fronts and still flat and true. Never did the metal to metal thing. The rears went 100K but wore concave and a light cut took them past the service limit, not much metal in these things any more. Might add mostly highway miles and no Grand Prix racing either.

Looking good. I just had the rears rotors replaced....well my parents did....since they still own it... (I am glad they cant find the title for it cause they still have to pay for repairs hee hee)

My step-father is lucky to get about 75k from a set of rotors.....comes with the job I guess..... hauls around 1k-3k lbs of candles in his vehicles all the time and loves to push the V8 for all its worth....course then he is stopping a 7-9k beast.....poor X...

Now he can beat up his Navigator though and leave the X for me to beat up :)

I have to change my front rotors and pads annully. About 25 to 30 thousand miles.

Its due again, but this time I am gonna put new drums and shoes on the back. For some strange reason, I am hoping it will help.

You have a lot of what seems to be greese on the inside of the rotor. Do you have a CV Joint Boot that has ripped?

BensBud

I'd bet it's rust penetrant that you're seeing.... maybe?

The installation/replacing is pretty straight forward, or no? I'm probably gonna change my rotors all around too.

yea man, its really starigh forward and i didn't find it to difficult, only getting the passenger side rotor off. oh what else is a pain is the brake pad holder assembly, it is a pain to get off, two bolts ont he back to take it off and they are cranked down like crazy...lol...hope it goes well, key thing be patient...

Did you use any lube on the contact points? ie. slider pins, back of pads, part of anchor where pads ride? I work for a well known auto repair shop and have had much experience with this problem. I lube everything now, LOL.

Yeah lube is important. As to getting a stuck rotor off you dont need a puller. once the caliper is off put the lug nuts on the studs a couple turns and beat the area between the studs with a BFH. the nuts are there to prevent destroying the studs (one slip and you will be mad otherwise) I take rotors WAY worse than those off every day that way. Well I skip the lug nuts step but after a ton of hammer time (heh) you wont slip

Very important to lube the slider pins - I learned this from experience because I wore out the rear pads before their time because the calipers were sticking.
