I need to replace the O2 sensor on my drivers side, bank 2, and i have heard people talk about how easy it was. by the way, i have a 2000 OHV 4.0L. I checked it out, and i cant see any way that ill be able to get the reatchet in there. Am i doing something wrong, or is there some trick to it?
I also have heard people talk about how difficult the passenger side is, but when i changed that one it took about 2 minutes going through the wheel well. Any help? This should be the last thing to stop that damn engine light. Thank you!!!

Not sure if we're looking at the same thing but I'm pretty sure the oxygen sensor is under the car next to the tranny. I was underneath yesterday and the drivers side (my passenger side) is definately easier to get to.

Piece of cake...You need the offset O2 sensor socket...

This is the one I have, but I believe you can rent these for free @ autozone.

hmmm, mine is a lot more barried. i got the tool from autozone. maybe someone who has a 2000 sport OHV could chime in? i would think it would be the same for all explorers but i guess not

Be careful about changing just ONE of the O2s, it's really better to change them in pairs due to wear differences...

I already changed the sensor on the passenger side.
Just did both of mine. Easy. I started it up for about 3-4 minutes to heat and expand the manifold threads and used a 7/8 open end (fits close but metric might be better) and broke the sensor loose. Let it cool for a while, disconnected the harness and removed/replaced the sensor.

If you have a check engine light prompting this, what is the readout on it? Are you just changing things hoping to make the light go out ?

No, i dont remember the code, but it was to the effet of bank 2 sensor had a heated circuit. I have had it checked a few times, and it comes back to the O2 sensor.
