Hey does anyone know if an 8.8 out of a ranger (wheel to wheel) would fit under my exploer. I have been searching for a replaement ex 8.8 but the yards around here want to much money. anyways just a thought

You dont want the Ranger axle for a few reasons

1. The Ranger version is typically fitted with 28 spline axles, the Explorer is 31 (much stronger)

2. The Ranger axle is spring over, the Explorer is spring under. It will not bolt up.

I'm not so sure a Ranger 8.8 will be any cheaper at a yard than an Explorer 8.8 but ya never know..

A Ranger 8.8 axle tube will probably have different shock mounts, not sure if this is a problem, I don't own a Ranger to know for sure. Also the spline count may be different, again I don't know if this would be an issue...depends how much you're swappin

You may want to look for a 8.8 from a 95-2001 Explorer. They come with disc brakes. I am not sure how the ABS will work.
