hi guys!
my truck revs forever in third gear until i manipulate it to shift by letting go of the throttle.
could this be as easy as a leak/low tranny oil or is my drum burnt?
thinking it might be an oil issue, since it works OK at low speeds.
any thoughts on this?
it's a -96 V6 euro export...
don't really know if it's the A4LD or R55Esomething???

I'm pretty sure that you are going to have the 4R55E which is essentially the electronic version of the A4LD.
Check your fluid level, also look at the condition of the fluid - is it nice and pickish red in color or dark?
It is also possible that your shift solenoid could be sticking - you may need to find someone with a scanner to determine this.

FIRST is the low/reverse band.
SECOND is intermediate band.
THIRD is the high clutch.
REVERSE is the low/reverse band and high clutch.
So if you still have reverse, the high clutch is good. I would guess the intemediate band snapped.

thanks!
i think it might just be low on oil, since it doesen't work very well when cold either...
last time i was low on oil - it didn't engage any gears until i rev'ed it a little, especially when cold.
calling the shop tomorrow

I have an a4ld in my bronco 2. the trans won't shift out of first in drive or overdrive. it will shift manually into second but not third gear or fourth. i still have reverse though. changed the filter and the fluid, and found no large particles. could it be my shift modulator?

I would still check your tranny oil for colour and level, that wont hurt!
