Sorry, posted this in the Modified forum by accident. 1997 Explorer Sport 4.0 SOHC

Anyone have any suggestions here? My daughter's truck has been to the dealer three times for starting problems. they replaced the starter and the starter switch and charged her $443. Didn't work. The first time she tried to start it after she picked it up, ignition lights came on but no crank. This happened several times, then it started and immediately died. It has been to the dealer three times for this. They don't seem to have a clue.

Did the dealer check the crank position sensor? I have heard of guys having the same problem and thats what it ended up being.

I don't know. Probably not. They are dodging me at the moment. won't return calls, moving me up to the service manager, who won't return calls.

I too have a '97 SOHC 4.0 and had the crank position sensor replaced, as mentioned above. This was after numerous tow-ins to the dealer when it wouldn't start. That seemed to fix the problem for about 6 months and now it's happening again. Seems totally random - no common set of circumstances. The dealer doesn't have a clue. I'm gonna trade it in.
