I have a 1996 Eddie Bauer, 4wd 4.0 OHV. For the past year, whenever shifting to 4wd auto, the 4wd and 4wdlow indicators on the dash flash 5 or 6 times. The car is not in 4wd. I know this to be a common problem, with probably a dozen fixes. Any concise input on suspected fixes.

Does not always do this, sometimes it seems to work. Will usually lock into 4low without difficulty. Unpredictable, usually fails.

Any input is appreciated.
