My temp gauge has been acting strang for past few months. Sometimes it reads normal, (1/4 way up the gauge) and other times it reads hot. Its like its getting too much voltage. It will go from cold to hot in like 10 seconds, so the engine is not overheating. Had radiator, coolent checked over.

The shop replaced the temp sensor located in the block.

It made no difference. If the car is not overheating what else could cause it to work and then not work?

Is that what a bad gauge does? I hope not cause that would require the dash to be ripped out.

If replacing the sending unit didn't fix it and the cooling system is working properly, the next step is the guage.
