I own a 2002 ford explorer EB. I live in the midwest and we recieved enough snow to justify using the 4x4. When I pressed the button on the dash nothing happened. No lights, no 4x4 engagement....nothing.....So, I removed all the fuses that concern 4x4 to make sure they were ok, disconnected the battery and reconnected it and tada, the 4x4 works. It worked for about a week, before it acted up again and would not engage, or light up on the dash.....So this time I took it to the dealer and they looked at it. They said I need a new 4x4 module which is located under the dash which would cost $300. I'm currently waiting for the part to arrive so they can put a new module in. In the meantime, we recieved another snow, I disconnected the battery, reconnected it and the 4x4 works again. Can anyone tell me whats going on and why a new module would fix the problem. I'd really like to save myself $300 if at all possible. Thanks.

I just turned over 38,000 miles on the truck and didn't get an extended warranty. Yeah, I know, it sucks.
