View Full Version : How many engine sensors in a Explorer?

After changing my tsp to fix a idle problem I got to thinking about all the little sensors located under the hood. I'm wondering how long they usually last and what to expect when they go bad.

Here are some sensors I can think of, add to the list if you know more.

O2 sensor - Whats it do and what happens when this goes bad?

TPS - ?

IAC- ?

MAC - ?

Air temp -?

Are there any others? Wondering how often they should be changed? I have 120,000 miles on a 95 Explorer. Burns no oil, good runner.

There's also a - Crankshaft position sensor (CKP)
- Camshaft position sensor (CMP)
- Eng. coolant temp. sensor (ECT)
- Power steering pressure switch (PSP)
- Vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
- Tranny range sensor (TR)

DPFE - Delta Pressure Feedback Exhaust sensor, tells the computer how much exhaust gases are going into the engine. Little silver box on the driver side of the upper intake.

EVP - Egr valve position sensor. Controls the vacuum going to the EGR vavle to open or close it.

Would that make them overly sensitive ?

I am sorry.
