View Full Version : OK...Why do R/C's not work at my house?

I bought a cheap toys'r us RC and it worked at my bro's but not here, thought I broke it , returned it.Bought a radio shack one , $170, worked fine first day, next day throttle stuck on.Today went to a hobby shop and dropped 400 bone, played at my bro's just fine, here is very erratic.Goes, stops, won't stop, reverse and forward are backwards, etc.My brother has the same one, it was doing it too.My neighbour has a big @$$ antenna in his back yard, Ham Radio? I know a compass won't work here either. Is this what's doing it?

yup too much interference.... go somewhere else.... call the fcc and see if he is pushing illegal wattage though..... toys are supposed to accept interference as part 15 of the fcc rules that may cuase undesired operation, but if it screws with a navigational device, i think there is something wrong.....

He's in Canada so he needs the Canadian version of the FCC.

He's in Canada so he needs the Canadian version of the FCC.

They are called Industry Canada (IC) and used to be Canadian Department of Communications (DOC)

A friend of mine had a neighbor who they could hear talking on his ham radio over their tv.

There are guidelines and fines if anyone exceeds the "Canadian Radio Interference Regulations"

And that headache you get sometimes is probably a tumor!

Good point, I believe the FCC`s rules and IC`s rules are pretty well the same....

now that i think of it, i have seen canadian specs on the same toys..... they just have different #s but the same rule.....

but if it will screw up a compass, and airplanes use compasses, then it could cuase death or harm, and that is illegal... he may be using some form of illegal amp

Just fyi, the sensors that reverse my garage door affect one of my RC cars. If I stand near the sensors and try to control my car, the car works intermittently. If I move away from them, it works fine. I would also bet on your neighbor's rf emissions being the problem. Time to have a little conversation with him...

The possibilty of this guy talking on his ham radio every time you try to use an RC car or a compass is pretty slim. His antenna by itself cannot be causing interfence.

I had a neighbor complain to another neighbor that he could hear me taliking in Russian over my ham radio. I don't know what he was smoking, but I do know that I don't know any foreign languages and I haven't even used the radio with the "big antenna" for three years.

When I was little I used to play with R\C's a lot and I remember not being able to play with them when I spent the night at my neighbor's house b/c the had power lines that were pretty close by (the big metal monsters). Any unshieled power/telephone lines around your house?

S'working today.I took it apart and it was pretty wet inside.Hoping that was all...won't use it in the snow anymore, and hopefully problem won't recurr.I asked him if he uses his radio, he said not in months and he said he has RC planes and a good understanding of radio frequencies. His radio is legal and would not interfere even if it was on.He is a really nice guy, and I have no reason to beleive he would not be completely truthfull. The dude I bought the RC from said his radios would have to be real old to do that, and illegal.

PS Thanks for all the help...Gotta love this forum. The RC I bought is a Traxxas Rustler.Very cool!

Hopefully your controller is running on 47 Megs. CB's are 27 Megs as are cheaper RC controllers. An extremely not so legit system I used to run would take over 27 Meg controllers but the 47 Meg controllers I would have to be parked next to them to interfear with the controller.

Hobby shop dude said 47 was for toys...27 was for "real" RC's.By the way, me and my bro went to the parkade midtown tonite and raced around....very cool. What a riot the real ones are.We snapped a shock on my bro's, and I got tire tracks on my face and nearly busted my nose. :bounce:

Oh come on...Rule number one; If you can do a jump with it, no matter what it is, someone has to lay down and be jumped! I lost the Rock, paper, scisors and my bro didn't quite hit the jump dead on.Thank god we were jumping his RC and not his Ex! When I got home my wife says " Hey Honey, are those tire tracks on your face? Nevermind, I don't want to know"

House rule #1: No R/C playing inside the house! Aren't you a little too old for that, anyways? Now, where did you say you got it from so I could buy one for my 9-yr old? ;) ;) :D

Grandma is that you?Oh, sorry x-factor, you sounded like my grandma for a second!J/K!

Who said anything about playing in the house? And I think you might be in the wrong forum to be trashing RC's.Notice the name of the forum? The one I have was $350 and would hardly be suitable for a 9 year old.Try toys'r us.And from my experience, when someone says I am too old for something, it is them that's old.:D

I have the same problem in Kamloops.
My $500 rc takes off on me all the time
Due to too much radio interference in the day time, try it at night.
