Why did you weld it shut?

I don't know the gory details on Fords, but on GM cars that's a no-no. The ECM on a GM car is programmed for EGR function. It advances the timing a bit during cruise because the exhaust gasses cause a cooler burn, and the added timing makes it more efficient (fuel efficient). If the timing is advanced without the EGR function, then you can have knock (detonation). Smaller amounts of knock usually cannot be heard by the ear, and if you can hear it, IT IS SEVERE! "like pounding the piston with a hammer". In time, it chews at the piston head, rings, headgaskets, and even bearings.

Again, I don't know if Fords do the same, but I'd research it. You're getting a code for a reason.

Your exhaust mechanic should have known better. You can't simply plate over the EGR without also replacing the computer.

REPLACE THE COMPUTER OR JUST INSTALL AN AFTERMARKET CHIP ?

THANKS

The stock computer expects to measure some gas flow through the EGR valve. The sensor for this is mounted on the left side of the engine near the top. If the sensor tells the computer there is no gas flowing, it will light the check engine light and set codes.

While it may be possible to modify the sensor to fake the gas flow, it'd be better to fix the system.

it needs the egr to function properly.....

tell your exhuast guy to fix that crap and make him pay to have the computer reset....
