View Full Version : Bought a ST Body to modify... Black Magic 01-04-2004, 10:34 PM I just bought a Bolink Explorer Sport Trac Body in plans to cut it in half and use an Explorer Rear body to make my own 01 Sport. I will be getting a HPI Savage 25. I can't wait! 99SportX 01-06-2004, 05:40 PM Cool, how do plan on joining the two bodies? Black Magic 01-07-2004, 01:41 AM Butt them together and use a piece of one to under lap both front and rear pieces. Crankcase 01-07-2004, 03:33 AM Metal or Plastic? I have wanted to do this for a first gen.....The only plastic models are 2 doors, or second gens:( jimbo74 01-07-2004, 03:36 AM if it is for an r/c, its probably plastic... more specifiaclly polysteyrene or lexan... mostly lexan as it is more common 99SportX 01-07-2004, 09:22 AM It will be difficult to make the joint seemless, as the paint is applied on the underside of the body. Black Magic 01-07-2004, 06:14 PM They are the clear plastic. My "Plan" is to paint them first then bond them together. This will be a show body, it will never see any play. So it just needs to hold together. 99SportX 01-07-2004, 06:18 PM ok, good luck :) Black Magic 01-08-2004, 06:15 PM Thanks I will need it. I think it will turn out ok. I just wish they made the one I wanted. DarkMan 01-09-2004, 01:29 PM Rather than have one go inside the other, you should cut off the "overlap" so that the two ends meet flush, then use the overlap underneith the seem to give it strength. This will take care of the uneven surface. But it will require very precise cutting. Given that you're mating two designs from two manufacturers it probably won't be a perfect fit, but it is a great idea. Black Magic 01-09-2004, 06:39 PM Darkman, you and I are on the same page. That was my plan. I just couldn't get it out right. Thanks for the input. |
