This forum is pretty dead lately, so i figured I'd ask my question in here. What do you guys think of clear corners, headlight/ tailight covers? I'm thinking about doing one of those, but I'm not quite sure.. any pros or cons on either? Any other ideas?

thanks!:D

Go with the clear corners, but your better off doing the Hartman (TM) mod. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87602&highlight=clear+corners

Hartman's clear corners and NO covers. Need more open suggestions, post a picture of your Explorer please. :)

I don't think the Hartman (TM) clear corners will work on a 1st gen.

For headlight/taillight covers are you talking about those blackout ones? Or slotted? I wouldn't recommend the blackout headlight covers...after a while they get annoying; taking them on/off or putting up with not being able to see small things in dark alleys :D As for slotted tails, I kinda like them, but other people don't *cough* Crankcase *cough* Also, depending on the cops in your area, I think it is WA state law that you can't have more than 50% of your taillight covered. I was pulled over before and told mine were illegal:

I think clear front corners looks really good on first gens....I changed my opinion opf them over time, i used to hate all clears. Clear TAILS on the other hand...are very expensive, and don't look as good. I would suggest finding some clear corners up front, and do the alternating turn signal mod....

88Vert has a first gen, and has all clears. Look up his truck. It is VERY nice!

Here's a pic of my ex. I have been leaning more towards clear corners because I think they look really nice with dark ex's... what is the best setup/brand for 1 gen's?

I'm definatly doing clears in the front, but not in the back. I'm still trying to decide on the tailights. I may just leave it alone for now.
Whats the best brand of clear corners for 1st Gen ex's?

i vote for custom painting the tails in a custom way and leaving the front ones.

i've had clear corners in the past but have moved on- for me it was a high school sort of thing really.

I got the clear corners on ebay for $30. They look way better in person, and they look awesome with my new billet grill that I installed on monday. Also, I have clear taillights coming next monday. Ill get some pics up as soon as I get the truck back from the shop.

I was considering those too at first but Gina was saying they are a pain to take on and off, and I am WAY too lazy to do that... plus I decided I realy like the clears better.
audiodude, Keep me posted :) I'd love to see clear tails on a 1st gen.

audiodude,
That looks so badass. Did you install it yourself and was it difficult? Thats something I've been considering doing, but I was looking at a grill like that with lights in it...:)

Yes I put it in myself, and it was extremely easy to put in. All you do is remove the factory one, put 2 clips on that you put screws through, and screw it down. There's only 4 screws. You are supposed to drill a hole through the hood release to attach the extension, but I didnt feel like putting it on. I just have to use a screwdriver to push the lever over to open the hood since I cant reach it through the bars. Also, I got it from Explorer Express. It looks soo sweet. Also, I got my new clear taillights on today and they are awesome. They look really nice. Its too dark out to get pics right now, and the truck is covered in snow so I'll try and get pics up tommorow. I thought the clear tails for the first gen ex were discontinued a while back, but I found them at procarparts.com for only $50.
Later,
Andy

I really like the clear tails, I wasn't sure if they'd look good but they do. I'm still playing with the idea of putting those on too, but seeing yours is helpful.
I also really like your gauges, where'd you find that setup? I havent found anything gauge-wise for 1gen ex's.....

I think some tail light guards over that would look sweet along with a brush guard. You still would be able to see the lights, but it could kind of frame them in. If not, I still like them, good work.

How do you figure 2-3 hours? I have a friend that lives in Newcastle.....
You should go say whats up to all the other NW Explorers, I dont know if you take your ex offroad, but were talking about a run on the 28th of Feb. North-Western Explorer Club (http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=82) :)

Katie, have you driven 405 latley? heck it's a half hour from Renton to Newcastle most of the day and that is only 4 miles. (I guess it's not really that bad)

I haven't really done any REAL 4wheelin, just some tough dirt roads a car wouldn't get through off I-90. I'd like to get my feet wet someday. My wife won't want to come and I don't know if she will let me bring our 4 yr old but I'm sure the dog wants to go.

Since I'm such a newby, maybe I should bring my mountain bike to make sure I make it out of the woods??

I'l post on the NWEC forum asking for details.
