Have you had a problem with synthetic fluids? I know there have been problems with Fords and Synthetics. I ran syn p/s once but it didn't go over well. Could have been my pump and box on their last leg.

I like ATF, it's cheaper, readily available and you can see it turn color easier due to it being red.

One note about synthetics is that if you didn't have a leaf before, you might now. synthetic fluid is man made (duh) and the molacules are the exact same size. Conventional petrolium fluid molacules are course and vary in size.

No I have never head a leak with my current setup and the synth fluid.
I have used the same fluid for years.
My pump is not as noisy as most.
I have a brand spankin new (6 months) rebuilt carquest pump and a brand spanking new rebuilt steering box (1 year), no leaks.

My old box leaked pretty good so I bought a core at the pick and pull for $15 and had it rebuilt for $120.
I have run the synth fluid since day one, and I OFTEN use the turkey baster method to pull out the old junk and replace with new when it gets too dark.
Also one of my next projects is to plumb in a steering cooler on the low pressure return line, shouldnt be a difficult project and might help with the whine.....

Good info to know. I'm about ready for a new box and the pump is a rebuild but whining like no other so I think I'll replace it at the same time. I'm thinkin AGR. One other thing I I have always done (expect this X) is to use an external ATF filter inline with the return hose. This helps extend the life greatly.
