It just started snowing and getting really cold here in North Carolina (cold for NC at least) and for the first time in a few months I went to turn on 4x4, but it wouldn't go on. All I hear is click click click sound coming from the rear, after about 20 tries or so the light will finally come on, and I'm also assuming the 4x4 actually turns on to. What could be wrong? I never used to have any trouble turning 4x4 on while it was cold.

It's a '93 Explorer.

If you need to use it now, use a hammer and gently smack the shift motor.

Change what fluid? Where's the shift motor and how do I clean it?

I don't suppose something could have frozen do to the cold weather could it?

Sorry if these questions are little novice.

transfer case fluid.

And most questions regarding the shift motor can be answered at www.glue.umd.edu/~singletn/exp.html (I think that's right)
