no argument here at all

the difference would be minimal and to really test my smaller outlet pipe theory we would need a dyno anyways hahaha

the IAC kit actually solved my idle problems 100%! I will put that in my explorer thread, thanks for reminding me

I live in the denver area, so yeah I am kinda off I-70 but not in Summit county, where are you gonna visit?

Ok so what i am getting is http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=436 and running two pipes out the back if you look at the notes it says Tru-X Perforated Core which its like a X pipe inside the muffler so i'll be keeping my low end and geting cool looks. i don't think i need too much extra flow really cause i think this and geting it tuned by my fav dyno guy is all i'm gonna do preformance wise.

yeah its a pain in the butt to run it out the back but i'm just gonna make a little cover for my spare tire and throw it in the back infront or next to my subs, this should leave us plenty of room to keep it away from the fuel lines too. I don't like the spare tire down there any way then you can't see my rancho shocks or the chrome cover i'm gonna put on my rear end

When are you getting this done? I almost got that same exact muffler put on my X...they had it on the lift and everything then the guy realized that it wouldn't fit with my side exit setup. I just got a lot of graduation money today (i graduated highschool today...go c/o 2007!!) and i get paid tomorrow so i think i may get my "true" magnaflow x-pipe put on tomorrow along with my Mac mufflers and get it ran out the back.

I WANT TO BE THE FIRST WITH AN X-PIPE!! lol

Thanks,
Colton

Looking at where you located I would guess that you don't have strict emissions where your at......
If that is the case loose the 4 cats buy some 02 simulators to stop from throwing codes and put a 2.5" true dual system with a pair of SpinTech mufflers. They sound and flow better than Flowmasters.
3" inch is TOO BIG!!! Unless you have done a cam swap that you didn't list your loose MAJOR low end torque by putting that big of pipe.

Evan with the true 2.5" to see the total benefit you REALLY need a custom tune on the computer after you have it installed.

I might be new to this site but trust me i can build power thats what I do for a living.

Awesome.....

I got mine done last Friday and i made some videos as well but i do not like the sound at all - i am embarrassed to post the videos....its way too quiet with the mufflers that i have. I am going to get dual Flowmaster 10 Series single chamber mufflers put on this weekend. Once i save up for the headers, this thing will sound awesome.

Heres the video...

Yea, it did. But im pretty sure that the Flowmaster single chamber muffles (10 series) that i am going to get will bring the volume back and give it a mean-ass sound.

Just to show you how much louder they are, check out this Mustang Cobra with the single chamber flows....

You have to take into account that certain sound frequencies can't be picked up by some video cameras. I have heard that same muffler setup in person and it has a lot more bass to it and it sounds 10x's better in person. We'll see.....

Hey Guys-
Thought I'd throw in my setup. I've got a '97 5.0 AWD.

I'm presently running a Magnaflow Dual 2.5" inlet, Single 3" outlet with an immediate turn down (dumped right before the rear axle). This muffler is a straight through muffle and damn long, about 2.5 feet long. I have run this explorer with the stock setup, no muffler, and then this setup. I can say this is definitely a nice setup.

At idle and low RPM, it gives a nice mellow rumble, but nothing terribly obnoxious (a little louder than the 50 series Flowmaster I ran on my old 4.0 SOHC). When you really step on it, it definitely gets throaty, but it sounds more like a race muffler than a 40-Series flowmaster on a V8. Flowmasters are definitely "Louder" in my opinion. The thing I like about it is that if you're not on the throttle, it quiets down at higher RPM's, but if you get into it, it wakes up. The best part is, with the turn down the way it is, you barely hear anything while driving (except at idle/low RPM where you feel it more than hear it). From outside, its got a very deep sound. I can hear it rumbling from a good 2 blocks away, but its not obnoxious... its sound from a distance is as mellow as its sound up close, it just carries well.

With all this said, I do agree with 410, I did lose some low end after installing this muffler. On the flip side, it really opened up at higher RPM (read above 3,000 RPM). I bet that going with a 2.75" outlet (and a longer tube than I have) would probably add just enough backpressure to gain back some of the lost torque.

Below are some pics. I took some videos with my Digicam, but the sound is so much of a "Feel", that the camera barely picks it up. I will try to get something better to post for the sound side of it.

Yep man, its been a while. School was killing me this semester, so I had to back off on "fun" stuff for a while, but now I'm back, haha.

Time to start looking for a 4406 for the X.
