Question big fender flares - tire size

I have a 98 sport with the huge fender flares, same as eddy B. edition. I would like to fill out the wheel well (width wise). I'm not really concerned with height and don't want to lift it. I have 16inch factory rims now. OK experts, what is the widest tire I can put on there, with and without changing rims? Minor mods considered. I really dont want to alter handling a lot because I do a lot of highway driving. Thanks Guys!

It really won't make a difference what kinda tire you put on there if you are planning on keeping your factory rims. the rim size and offset is what fills the whole fender... The other problem that you will run into is that you can't fit a really wide tire on a narrow rim and still stay safe.

If I purchase new rims what would be the widest I could go without:
1) Rubbing on the front bumper when I turn and,
2) Sticking out too far to the point it looks like a G-Ride.

Thanks

Keynes,

Do this, get a 3 inch body lift.. then some 15x10 rims and maybe some 31 x 12.50 whatver brand. then you would look pretty sweet.. Not like a g-ride.

Tire Size

I Have A 99 XLT With Flare Fenders It Came Stock With 255/70/16's They Filled The Wheel Well With No Room To Spare I Was Told If I Cut The Edges Of The Plastic I Could Fit 265/75/16's On It Without Any Mods So I Bought Some And Had Them Put On. And They Rubbed So I Wound Up Doing a 3" Lift And Now They Fit Fine.

Re: Tire Size

I just got my 31 Bfg's today with 15inch eagle 589's w/ a 30mm offset. I thought it wouldn't but it rubbed on the plastice piece in the bottom of the fender flare. I had to take it off and am going to cut it off.

Hi there,

I went to a bronco meet last week at the James Duff headquarters. James Duff is comming out with a new fender flare, it's wide and very flexible. That means you wont break it off when hitting a tree in the hills. And they are flexible enough that you can cut your fenders out and still make em fit.

If interested call em, they should be ready in about 5 weeks.

I'm gonna get me a set and I will post some pictures once I do.

Take care,
Oknut

Does anyone know if the 4 door fender flare sets for 95+ explorers will fit on the 2 door?

Does anyone know where you can find them for under $200?

Thanks,
