92 4wd wheels...will larger rims fit???

I have a 92 4wd sport...I want to buy some 17 or 18 inch wheels and some lower profile tires to keep around the same diameter. I havent found anything on the internet that fits on 4wd. Has anyone ever put larger rims on an early model 4wd explorer???

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

yes. several people have... the problem with the older 4x4 explorers is that they have a hub sticking out on the front. this means that few rims will fit w/o modification to the center cap...some have even drilled out the rim center a little to allow them to fit....but it is definately possible.......

thanks for the help, would you happen to know any of the rims that this will work with, or can any rim be modified to fit.
Thanks again.

it depends on the rim and the shop you use to modify it.....

mustan rims bolt up no problem...but a wheel spacer may be needed to clear the front center cap

i have the same problem...i have a 93 4x4 and want 2 sets of rims: 18's for summer and some new 15s with 30x9.5s for winter. the problem is that i refuse to have someone modify the actual rim or cap so i an kinda stuck. let me know if you find anything.

if it is true that the mustang rims will fit w/o mods, does anyone have a pic?
