Question Should I buy this 92'?????????

Ok, I have the option to buy a 1992 explorer wholesale... It is a 92' Eddie Baur with 174,000 miles for the low low price of $1150 plus tax. It is the green and tan with leather. Overall it is in ok shape body is pretty straight. The rust is starting in front of the wheels seems like it is all "under the paint" but it might be a lil' push of the finger and be all the way through. The leather is in nice shape. Does have a flip style sunroof. Much has been replaced a/c system, starter, brakes front and back.....etc. I drove it a bit and as you apply the brakes it makes a clunking noise. And when I ran over a speed bump and it make quite a bit of front end noise. So I am undecided. Overall it is quite clean for a 92' but that noise its making kinda scares me away from it. Oh, yeah the abs light is on...... what do you guys think about it?

1150 is cheap but you are going to have to sink about another 500 to 600 hundred in it then you have a nice 4x4 for under 2000 grand. How does the tranny shift?

Tranny did shift fine but it does has 17X,XXX miles so it should be going pretty soon. I have two ways to go. 94' Rodeo for 2,800 or the 92' explorer. The Rodeo needs nothing... So I am thinking about getting the rodeo to drive so I dont have to worry about sinking a bunch of money into it. decisions decisions

those are typical problems with the front end for a 92 explorer.. With over 170,000 miles, I would be suprised if the tranny hasnt been rebuilt allready. Did overdrive kick in ok? Did you check the fluid? Any car for that cheap is going to need some work. The nice things about exploreres, is that they are fairly easy to work on. Good luck

clunking noise??

The clunking noise might not be anything that serious. It could just be the radius arm bushings. I would get under it and try to see if they move when you push them.

I would go with the Explorer and put the money you would have spent on the Rodeo into it; that way you know where the money went. NO used auto "needs nothing". Besides that you'll have to join a Rodeo forumand you really don't want to do that? Do you

I also have a '92 Eddie B with 175k miles. $1150 sounds like a very good price.

'92

I've got a '92 EB w/170 on it, second owner. If you live in the north, be prepared for rust around the wheelwells, front and rear, rocker panels and dog leg pieces. Mine also rusted around the top of the gas filler due to a dead space up there in the fender well. I still have the major original parts on mine;motor, trans etc. I'd go with the X and put the needed money into it as long as it doesn't look like it was beat on.
