Explorer Safety

July 26th I was unfortunate enough to suffer a seizure while driving at 50 mph. Since I was unconcious when the accident happened, I can only share what I've been told by both the police and witnesses. After passing out, my 1998 Explorer XLT V8 drifted right and continued down the road for about 1/2 a mile before slamming into a large Krystal sign. The first thing I remember on my own from the night is that I opened the door and climbed out completely unharmed (save a sore back and neck). This car saved my life without a doubt, so three cheers for Explorers (as if you didn't already need a reason to celebrate)! My billet's are looking pretty harsh, and the carbon fiber headlight covers shattered into a million pieces, as well as the battery, my tires, fan, lights, etc. I'm rebuilding the car now with the help of my local Ford dealer because there's no way I'm scraping this car! I'm also buying a 2002 Eddie Bauer V8. Many thanks to Ford for building such a great SUV!

Angels are watching over you....

I have a friend named Julie. She drove a new Wrangler.
A volvo ran a red light and creamed her Jeep, it rolled 3 times. She was stuck upside down in the Jeep for 3 hours while they cut her out. She walked away with slight bruises. She was not wearing her seat belt.

Angels I tell you......

Glad you're ok.

My X rammed a telephone pole when I was 16. The truck was stock. Basically due to a slick, poorly maintained road and poor driving skills, I hit the tp head-on at 25-30 mph. I knew the impact was coming, so I lightly had my hands on the wheel at 9 and 3 like they tell you to with airbags. After the impact, my glasses were still on straight, and I just had some minor burns from the airbag explosives. The truck had about $6500 damage.

same thing happened to me 2 times.. i hit a phone pole at 65 miles per hour in my little 93 cavalier... totalled it out... really bad.. hurt myself a bit but i was ok..

but then i was broadsided by a full size tahoe with a grill guard going 65 or so when i didnt stop at a stoplight due to a siezure, it was in my 99 ranger.. and it rolled.. etc.. anyway that side impact bar saved my life.. any other car and i would have been dead...

thank god for ford.

Glad to hear that you wrer not injured and your X will live to see another day. Having Nacrolepsey, one of my greatest fears is falling asleap at the wheel, but I feel safer knowing that the vehicle I am driving is a Ford.

Your a very lucky guy, but the X do part of the job.

In Oct. 2001 I crash my 92 XLT against a Mazda 626 sedan that suddenly stop in the highway to make a U turn.

I go at about 50 MPH and I have no time to do nothing, excepto grabb the wheel and wait.

Ther crash was rough, man, and the trunk of the Mazda just dissappear. The rear part of the car becomes flat as a billiard table.

By luck nobody was hurt, nor myself or the guy on the Mazda. Remember that a 92 XLT has no airbags

Damages in my XLT? almost nothing. A broken corner light and the right headlamp, and some scratches in the mask and the hood.

I will never change my XLT, I like drive a tank.

Glad you got out alright.

When I was 16, some drunk t-boned me going about 60. My Grand Cherokee rolled 3 times and before I knew it, I was upside down. His car was beyond recognition and he was soooo drunk it wasn't even funny. I got out with a little cut on my forehead so I was very lucky that I was alive. He was jailed for a long ass time. I forgot how long but I'm alright. That's all I care about.
