Unhappy Security starter lockout

My daughter has a 96 XLT and has replaced the battery but now has a problem with the starter being locked out by the security system. In order to start it, she must push her override button under the dash. Then it will start and run fine until the key is turned off. Does anyone have any ideas? It seems to me that the programming for the security system is on the fritz and we can't find the codes to reset it. Thanks!
