Ashtray?

This may seem like a dumb question coming from me, but, does my 98 EB have an ashtray in the front? If so where is it?

Thanks for the compliments man. That HU is the Pioneer FH-P8800. Unfortunately, they broke into my X and stole it. I replaced it with a Pioneer p930 which sounds much cleaner and louder, but doesnt look as good. Oh well, theres always a trade-off.

Sean, I'm sorry to hear about your truck got broken into. Anyways...the ashtray is a little thing that fits into the cupholder and it is removable.

Yeah... they did it that way so they could charge smokers extra for the 'smokers package'. I think it was like a $25 option or something. I took mine out. I like the extra cup holder... I'm addicted to pepsi, not cigarettes. That rectangle slot next to the cupholder is for a pack.

I'm not a smoker either but I remember having the pull out ashtray in my 95 and always wondered where it was in my 98. I dont even know where I put that plastic ashtray thingie that came with my 98. I use the "ashtray" hole as an extra cup holder as well. Is that rectangular slot really for a pack of smokes?

$25.00 for an ash tray option ? Yikes !!
My cell phone fits like a glove in the rectangle slot.
I am gonna run the charger cord under the center console and up through the rectangle hole.

There was never a smoker's package for Explorers. They all have that plastic cup one way or another. It's for storing change. The rectangle slot is for your garage door opener. Mines fits in perfectly.

The little plastic insert "IS NOT" the ashtray, that is a sleeve for smaller cups. Should have a sleeve in both the small and large cup holders. The ashtray is an option ("SMOKER'S PACKAGE") that fits into the smaller holder. It's a round ashtray with a flip-up lid. If you really need one, I'll send you mine. It's thrown in my glove box along with the lighter.

Great! More answers. The last response seems the most plausible. I do remember seeing that flip top thing in another X. As far as that rectangular slot, I guess we can use it for whatever works best! Thanks for all the answers guys.

They do have a somkers package. I store my change in the change holder that is in the compartment under the arm rest. When you lift the lid there is a change holder right there. And as for the garage door opener, why dont you put it in the garage door opener spot that was made for it in the overhead console? That rectangle spot next to the cup holder IS for a pack of cigarettes.

With the moon roof, there is no place for the opener.

I mounted my opener to the back of the driver;s side visor with velcro ; I just flip down the visor and disarm my house alarm as well as open the garage. Works great.

Hey Al, do you have a website or something with all the mods you've done to your X?
