i am out of AAA uses for the year and my friend was getting a cigarette out of my car and locked the keys inside. is there any way to get in there with a hangar or something? thanks much.

ya, my brother locked the keys inside of his 93. we had AAA come and they just used a bent hangar, slid it down the from passanger window, and pulled it back up the inside and it poped up the lock somehow. he was done in like 3 seconds. so there is definatly a way to open it with a hangar, my sugestions is to get a hangar, bend the end up, and fiddle around with it. good luck!

You know those hanging folders that you use for manilla folders in a verticle or lateral file cabinet? Get a legal size hanging folder from somewhere and remove the metal thingie, that's your new jimmy bar. Do you have a roof rack with those bungie cord tie points on it? If so you stick your little jimmy bar down into the roof rail and cinch up the moveable bungie ties to keep it in place. The next time you lock your keys in, you'll have the jimmy there waiting.

I'm glad i know the code on my keypad so I'm never able to lock myself out of my truck.

Do you have power door locks? You can go through between the window glass and weather strip with a coat hanger. Or just pay a lock smith or flag down a cop.

Got to agree with spiper here. I locked myself out in a Home Depot parking lot a few months ago and was able to take a flexible stick from a willow tree, slide it around the weatherstripping, and flip the locks. Does nothing for my feeling of security.

Yeah, it is kind of un nerving, I took all of my lock knobs out so that cant be done, I'd rather give a locksmith $50 than screw around with coat hanger. I spose a car thief will just break a window any way, unless my dog is in there.:D

The only time I locked my self out of my X I had left my pop up sun roof open. (wood) :hammer: Just removed it and used a broom stick to hit the lock switch.

2 words: magnetic hidakey

Everyone should have one, its a small plactic box with a magnet on the back...Put your key in there and hide it somewhere under the truck as out of sight as possible.

luckily the last two times I locked my keys in the ex the windows were cracked just a little bit and I took off a windshield wiper, stuck it in the crack and hit the unlock button.

If you have a sport model you can just take out the back glass.I have had to do that many times.

A friend of mine had a 93XLT that had the locks so that the doors locked whenever the car was started...one frosty cold night he prestarted his X and shut the door...oops...we couldnt get the coathanger to work, so he ended up removing one of the small seals around the small window in one of the rear side doors and poped the glass out...probably not the best way to do it, but he didnt break any glass, and got into his car.

I've only locked my keys in the car one time. A AAA tow truck was already on the way for another problem, so we decided it was no big deal and AAA could deal with it. The tow truck got there and said that he didn't do locks. So we had to go all the way back home in a friends car and pick up the extra keys. I'm going to have to agree with VairKing on that one, a magnetic hide-a-key is on the way as soon as I get the key copied so I have one.

I keep a spare key in my wallet. I have locked my keys inside my cars many times, but I always have my wallet on me, so I have never been totally locked out.

Yeah, it does. I was playing around while driving and it worked. I don't know why it doesn't work.

Do none of you guys have the credit card sized plastic key that came with the Explorer?

I beleive it came with every ford vehicle up until 1995 or so.

It is very handy, as it goes in your wallet, thereby staying with you if you don't keep your wallet in the vehicle.

I also have the keypad on the door. I start up my truck to let it warm up, then lock it all the time. Never had a problem.

Just out of curiosity, it's still February. How can you be out of AAA uses for the year already?

What credit card sized plastic key? I have a '94, and to my knowledge we don't have anything like that. I'll have to ask around though

It was a blue plastic credit-card sized key, that came in every owners manual when new. Or at least that is the theory...

It has the shape of a blank key in the center to match the door key/ignition key, and it has to be cut to the same cut as your original key.

The older ones had two keys in the card, one for doors, one for ignition, for the older, smaller, Ford keys.

Having been in the towing industry for 20 years seen this a lot.
1st Option call a good towing company and for around 25 to 35 dollars they will open it for you without any damage(broken lock rods, damaged wiring in door, broken windows, torn window gaskets Damaged air bags and scratched paint, etc...)

2nd Choice ROCK (most insurance companies will pay for glass damage)

future reference
Dont bother with one of those magnetic holders(everytime you need it it has fallen off)
Better choices Spare key screwed into fender well
spare key duct taped to back of license plate
spare key cable ties to undercarige of vehicle

I know this wont help you now, but for future i would get magnetic key holder. Its standing operating procedure with every car i get, save you some headaches.

Nothing like giving a thief that is out to steal only your license plate your whole vehicle. My personal preference is the key in the wallet. I carried a spare key in my wallet for every vehicle I have owned up until I got my Explorer with the keypad on the side.

Another one for the key in the wallet. I've kept a spare key in my wallet since I started driving, and I have one only been locked out once...when I left both the keys and my wallet in the truck. :fire: Let me tell you something, 87 Rangers are HARD to break into (without destroying anything). The cop that stopped to help me couldn't even get the door open. Had to call my mom to bring me my extra key.

problem most people i have encountered use the wallet key and then forgwet to put it back in their wallet.
or in my case dont want to carry a half dozen keys in your wallet. Not to mention when someone borrows your car and locks the keys inside. and for the one who thinks loosing a plate is a problem. I have lived in the boston area and driving commercialy for over 20 years
and have not lost a plate in over 20 years

I lost three plates in the 4 years that I lived in my apartment in Toldeo (about 60 miles south of Detroit) while my vehicles were parked in the parking lot.

After almost losing my plate (they had it about halfway off), I now use security style stainless sheet metal screws (2 off-centered holes in the screw head). They also have a tapered pan-style head.

Although I didn't order it, my X Sport came with the keyless entry pad. It has become more than a convenience, it is a neccessity. I heard you can retro this system on some years. Never get locked out again!

LOL, I wonder if that guy ever got into his X?! Some threads have a life of their own.
