Well I've been gathering information and giving information here for a while now and just found this thread! Anyways, I got my explorer when I was 16 as my first vehicle 6.5 years ago with 61k on it from my Grandpa who recently then couldn't drive anymore. Ever since I got it I have made a project out of it. First it started with just fixing some spot rust and waxing and the story just gets longer!! Since then over the years I have done many mods including: -Gibson cat-back exhaust -K&N intake system -Custom electric fan set up with a painless controller. (I used a dual fan set-up from a 97 ford contour for clearance reasons) -dimond-cut head lights -"lego" tail lights, lol (I didn't realize they looked that...
Hello Everyone! Been on the forums for quite a while now, and have never actually made a post relating to my explorer! I've owned 2 explorers so far, bought both not running and fixed them up over time. My previous explorer was a white 99 and my current is a 97, both 5.0L and both have alot of hours and work into them, but this thread will be mainly about my current build the 97 Current Mod List (Will be updated as much as possible): -3" PA853 Daystar body lift -1.5" Torsion bar lift with adjustable rear shackles to match front -Custom built retrofit headlight housings with blue halos and switchback LEDs -20x10 Gear Alloy Armor wheels with 33x12.50 Ironman All Country M/T tires -Aftermarket Grill insert with custom Ford...
-1998 XLT V6 SOHC = 3.73 Limited Slip Rear = 32x11.5 BFG A/T's = 15x8 Mickey Thompson Classic II = 2" TT = Pro-Comp EXP-13120 Add a Leaf = Surco Roof Rack = 2 Hella 500 Fog Lights = 2 Hella 500 Driving Lights = 2 Baja 55w Axillary Fog Lights = x4 Alpine Type S In-door speakers = Factory Skid Plates So I just decided to make my registry. Let's see how this goes. This is my X next to my brother's 2000 Blazer in my driveway. I guess I will start with the X itself. I purchased my X on April 3, 2009 and I have been working on it since. A lot of the upgrades were installed by the previous owner but I have a lot of work still to do. Balancing school, football, and working on my X is pretty difficult but I always seem to find...
This is my second Explorer, a 2000 XLT loaded with leather and moonroof :)... sold the old one because it was 2wd. Going with a TT/Shackle lift, 31's or 32's... haven't decided yet, and some black cragar soft 8 rims. Want it to be a capable off roader, yet still economical because it is my DD. Can't decide yet if I want to keep the running boards, I like the look of these type instead of the molded to the body version.
My wife & I last weekend purchased a 1999 Explorer Sport which I wanted to get for a "spare" backup vehicle in case my 2000 Ranger or her 2008 Escape needed work that would lay it up for more then a weekend. The dealer was asking 1595 for it & we offered 1300 & we got it. It has only 81K miles, it has the 4.0 SOHC, auto, PW, PL, PM, Power Sunroof, & is bright red w/gray leather interior.Well now my wife has claimed it as here DD & make her 2008 Escape the spare vehicle since we had purchased a 1999 Explorer Sport new back in 99 when I was working at a ford dealer & we ran it up to 275K miles before selling it a couple years ago. (mistake on my part).
Hello from Phoenix, AZ. My name is Greg. This is gonna serve as my rough draft registry/build thread OK I've been snipe'n this site for research, ideas and info for about 2 years now and I have to say thank you all for putt'n this thing together. I know my truck very well now with help and tips from this forum and of course busting some knuk on the sharp bits. So it's time to participate! I love this truck! I'm add'n to the fold my '94 Ex Limited. You know one of the purple one's. Dark Cranberry they call it. Not a bad color but a little soccer-momish. So that's gotta go! Got it from the original owner with 108k very well maintained miles, absolutely free of rust. If not for the front leather the interior is 10 of...
First Explorer; First car. First car for a young 18 year old, hoping to last through the majority of at least his college career. She's going to go through hell, as I like to push her and Vermont winters are unforgiving on vehicles, but hopefully with some routine maintenance she can make it through it. She's a Black '99 Explorer Sport 4x4 with the SOHC v6. Most things are stock on her currently, basically only bulbs and a new rear bumper placed on her. Hoping to touch up some of the paint/sun faded spots on the body within a few days. Below is a picture: Modifications will be few and far in between, due to time and funding constraints. A new bumper was placed on, as the old one was rusting and had holes through it. Below is...
I got the truck for free from my parents because my Camaro (1996 ex highway patrol B4C) became not suitable as a daily driver anymore (It's a monster) and I have slowly been working on this instead. I have had it for about 3.5 years. I don't have to many pics but I have a few. -1998 4.0 SOHC. 150k on the body and trans, about 30k on the engine rebuild. Crankshaft pully broke clean off. -Custom air filter - Auto zone cone air filter. I ground down the MAF housing round. No adapter plate. -Removed the orange reflector from the headlights. - Found the "how to" on the forum here. -I re-painted the front bumper stripe. The tan had faded to an odd silver and black mix. -Chrome door pillar stick on accents, stainless steel, 6...
I figure its time to redo my registry, as the 1st time around it was full of random stuff and very un-informitive. She started out as a stock 97 xlt to replace my totaled 94. I picked her up for $400 needing a rear drive shaft and upper ball joints in july of 2010. The set of pics in this post are shortly after i brought her home, with the only mods being the brush guard that came on it and the 30" mud tires from my 94. Over time i slowly built her up, starting with the oil pressure guage mod, then a TT and air shocks. After that came several different tire and wheel combinations, eventually ending up with 33" Goodyear DuraTrac's on 15" d-windows. Somewhere amongst the different tires i installed an Aussie locker. I added a Cobra 29ltd...
well, ive been a member for a few month's, and plan to stick around so i figured id add my truck to the registry. its a 92. i actually got it for free, but it hadnt been driven in a few years, so ive allready put about 2000 bux into the pile. this is what it looked like when i first got it. ive been frequenting the local junk yard, and pillaging part's as ive found them. this is some of the things ive been doing recently. painted the stock rims black, and left the lip unpainted for the race truck look. lol instead of waisting my money on the KKM intake set up, i bought a 5.0 MAF housing from my local junk yard, and a cone filter, and intake adapter from the local auto store. total cost, LESS THEN $35...
