Body Work & Detailing

Waxing washing, wheel cleaning and body work. This is the place to discuss those topics.

Hey everyone, i have a 2014 Sport that has a blown out rear sunroof/panoramic glass from a hail storm. What was left of the orignal has been removed and I have the replacement. I was hoping it was a simple install, but the is no way from the top to get the piece in place and bolted back in. How do I install it? Do I have to drop the headliner? Drop the whole sunroof assembly? If anyone has done this, I sure would appreciate some direction.
I have been looking for some silver trim paint codes for my roof rack that started peeling recently on my '07 Sport Trac Limited. I found this link to Martin Seynor paints that lists quite a few Ford models from 2004 to 2015 with paint codes under categories for exterior, accents, accessory, wheels, underhood, and interior. They have other manufacturers as well. Thought this might be useful to you as my search has gone on for weeks and I've looked at post after post here on this forum too. I'd asked a dealer parts man and he had no clue what the paint code would be. It's not in the service manual either. You'd think it would be there but in two thick volumes, I saw only the exterior main color code and an accent color. Nothing on...
Ok, I'm a dummy and I did it to myself. Project truck has been sitting for quite some time and only getting washed but never really dried off. Now I've got Bad A$$ water spots all over the hood that are getting on my nerves. Tried Dupont #7 polishing compound by hand. Nothing McGuire's polishing compound by hand. Nothing. I guess it's time for an orbital buffer and something like Fast Cut. Or does someone else have a better product that will work with a buffer? P.S. Factory Black Paint...
First I want to thank everyone for looking at my post. I am new to ExplorerForum, but it has been very helpful already. I am a huge Ford fan, but my wife's 2017 Explorer Sport was in a wreck a couple of weeks ago and the damage seems oddly excessive. My wife was pulling into the parking garage at her work and when she pushed the brake pedal there was nothing there. That's the least concerning part of my story. So we called the insurance and they looked at the damage (see pic) and they estimated about $ 6k. It was a low speed impact, no airbag, no seat belt marks, so roughly 3 to 5 miles per hour. Regardless, we have it taken to our repair shop of choice. They have it for about a week taking it apart and identifying any damage...
I made this thread to contribute to this community.First off I want nothing from this. Just offering over 20 years experience in the show car field. Here I will answer any questions on Rinseless washing, Waterless washing, andTwo bucket method. I can also share on polishing (my specialty) . I will also talk about interior cleaning and chemicals. Then ceramic or other coatings. Understand I will not accept work from this site. I am an owner and want to share, this all will be how to do it right for free. So ask away.
Does anyone know of a current source for this black grille? I had one on back order through Summit Racing for several months but they finally informed me that the manufacturer (Sherman) had discontinued the part... The other obvious alternative would be to paint the original chrome grille black (or body color). However, mine is so badly wrinkled that I will need to remove the chrome plating before I can paint it. What is the best method for removing chrome from plastic parts?
Fixing my rusty rocker panels is my first body work project. The only online places I could find replacement 2-door rocker panels was Raybuck & LMC, both are $40, but LMC's shipping is cheaper by about $2. I called a local place and they said they don't have anything. So I just received my LMC "rocker panel" [which by the way is made by CHL Auto Parts (LMC won't tell you who manufactures their stuff on the phone)]. Anyway, I now notice the sticker on it includes the words "slip on". There's not a ton about this online. Are there really 2 different types of panels? Are Slip-On panels really meant to be put OVER the rusted rocker panels or is this just a poor choice of terminology like "slip-on exhausts" for motorcycles...
I currently have the Ford OEM Window Deflectors / Window Vents on my '16 Explorer. I've never really been in love with them since I put them on, as I have the silver car with the top of the window line going down the car - the car window frames/pillars are black and make a nice clean line of black down the side of the car with the silver above it (I hope that makes sense). With the Ford vents with the double-sided 3M tape, the top of the vents is higher than that nice black line, thus breaking up the "clean look" of it. (I'd take a picture but I already took them off). So, aside from the OEM deflectors breaking that line, my front passenger door deflector started peeling off, flapping around while driving, so it gave me an excuse to...
I'm doing some body work on my 1999 2-door Explorer. Both the outer and inner rocker panels are rusted out. I can find replacement outers just fine; however, the inners elude me. Some say "no big deal" because they don't add any structural support. Others speak of doors not fitting well without the inners. So, has anyone found a source for inner rocker panels for the 2-door body style? Or a substitute? Thanks. DugIn
