Body Work & Detailing

Waxing washing, wheel cleaning and body work. This is the place to discuss those topics.
Since this is a repair-related topic, but since there is much debate over if the windshield is part of the "body" or not (whereas repairing a windshield is or is not body work,) please move this thread if it is better suited to another Sub-Forum, thanks. Since I've lately been curious about windshield replacements after hearing the EPA has given incentive to insurance companies to provide glass repair and replacement at little to no cost upfront, among other arrangements, due to landfill problems with auto glass, I thought I would make a thread where you can tell me / just discuss what policies you have and which ones work for you for your glass repair needs. Mine does not currently cover this whatsoever, so if I got a chip that cracked...
OK Ive got a 01 X Sport and noticed today I have a crack in my windshield. Had to have happened today. Its midway down on the passenger side of the windshield. Looks like a small rock hit the very edge of the windshield and crack it. Its about 8 inches long in a horizontal direction. Now im pretty sure I already know the answer but I figured Id give it a shot. Does any1 think this can be fixed or should I jsut bite the bullet and have it replaced? Ive already got a quote of about $300 to have it replaced. Just tryin to save so dough if possible. If I replace it, ill have to have it done. I can fix engines but trust myself with body work.
my 1993 ford explorer windshield is comming loose, it looks like it has slid down about an inch, and some trim flew off while i was on my way to browns camp in oregon. How hard is it to reinstall my windshield and how do you? also would it just be easier to take it to a shop and have them do it? duct tape has so many uses.
My windshield randomly started cracking in both bottom corners. It started with the passenger side in a small L shape from the bottom to side edges, then the driver side with a crack from the bottom going up towards the center. These literally appeared overnight in the past couple weeks. It is getting worse; this morning the drivers crack was further into the middle and a small branch crack appeared. I'm guessing this is somehow due to temperature changes at night somehow messing with the windshield, while the integrity of the seam and seal at the roof edge is damaged by rust. This rust has been getting worse over the years. No water leaks or any issues till this windshield thing. i'd have thought this would happen in the winter, but it...
Does anyone know how to remove the wiper arms so that they could be painted, mine are faded so i was wanting to see if i could get the same color red as my x and paint them like that or black. Can not figure out how to get them off though, i dont want to break them and I was going to paint around my fogs, i have the round ones and its no crome on those squares so i was thinking about painting them red as well, lol,
I've been thinking about tinting my windows soon. I'm getting 32% up front (cops are giving tickets for anything not legal) and not sure about the back yet (I've got the "privacy rear windows" w/ factory tint). I like the look of the tint, but I offroad... a lot. I was wondering if it would screw up my tint a lot if I rolled down the windows after they were covered in mud. Would it scratch up the tint? Would I need to keep them closed the whole time until I wash the windows off again? I'm hoping to get them tinted soon, so any help is appreciated. Thanks, Bryan
im sorry if this has been talked about i did a quick search but dont have much time. i had my truck broken into last night and they smashed the rear drivers door window. i got a new window put in but the tint is wrong. the glass shop said there was only 1 tint option for my truck, 94 eddie bauer. the window looks terrible i just need to know what kind of tint i need mine looks reflective and the new one is darker with no reflection. thanks in advance for your help. Rusty
Yeah, not an Explorer, but also drive one, so why not ask for help? '94 Mustang GT I bought recently has window tint all scruffed from rubbing the inside rubber gasket. Just got back from O'Reilly Auto Parts, where a bewildering number of tints was available. Store Mgr. little help, said they had explanatory booklet at rack, but it was missing. At least 6 different box-types/brands, each having 35% transmission, 20%, and 5%. One had 2.5%. No indication of tint color, or quality, or scratch resistance, etc. Priced from $9.99 to $19.99. Mgr. suggested trying Gilafilms.com. Found only propaganda. Can anyone help? imp
