I'm an "Elite" so here is my first entry. I've been building a Ranger but like all projects they seem to take longer than planned. So the ice racing season is approaching and I want to race and I've taken my daily driver Explorer to a point where it is better off road than on the ice. So, I bought this little '98 Sport. It's got a 4.0 OHV with a 5 speed so I think it will work pretty good on the ice. link to my 2000 Eddie Bauer http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/index.php?threads/starkmans-explorer-build-thread.391609/ link to Ranger http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/index.php?threads/starkmans-rally-ranger.447883/ I was busy today It took a little hit to the grill and the headlights were knocked out and some of the clips and...
:us: Hopefully I am starting this thread in the proper place. I am following the ideas of other members to keep a log so to speak of the 92 Explorer now know as Dr. Jack. It all started a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, oops, wrong story. A while back in the spring/summer time frame of 2009. I was asked by an EF member if I ever do any 4wheeling, I told him I had done a bit in Death Valley but not much, this is when he intoduced me to the EF family. We made plans for me to join him as a rider in the CCR09 at Ouray. We did a pre-run in Moab where I meet Bronco2guy, Amy, and Chad551. Then on to Ouray where I meet a lot of fine peeps in the EF family. I had such a blast that I decided to start a project, I have always...
Today I took possession of what is probably my last project vehicle - a 2003 Explorer Centennial with a 4.6L SOHC V8, 5R55S automatic transmission and rear wheel drive. The following threads are related to this vehicle: Next project vehicle? DOHC 4.6L V8 build Motorized pre-oiler 4.6L DOHC head cooling and crossover delete mods 2003 Centennial 4.6L Engine Removal ATF to Fluid Cooler for my 2003 Centennial There were only 4,000 of these Explorers manufactured and they all were identical inside and out. They have black exteriors to match the only color available on the Ford Model T. There is a badge on each side and rear to identify the anniversary model. The Centennial is basically a more expensive Limited with some unique interior and...
Here is my 97 Explorer 5.0 AWD. I bought her for $250. has been a great vehicle for the times that I have driven her. Have not had a chance to take her off road yet. but soon I am hoping to. Just got to get her Registered. :) Here are my plans for her. Right now - Remove side Steps TT Add a leaf Minimum 33" tires ** Edit - The build is not gonna be much now. The most I might do is put a Body lift after TT and AAL. I have been able to get her running with replacing Fuel pump. Removed Steps on Driver side and Removed the Front Bumper.
I introduced myself yesterday morning before I decided to dig into the headlight situation. I went in armed with the knowledge that the multifunction switch (wiper/signal/high beam combination switch) on the column was the likely culprit. I had to prove it to the hubby though. Took my tool kit out and started tearing down the dash. I won't go into details bc there are dozens of posts here re: this exact issue. Before I got very far I had to check all fuses, as some dim wit had wired two sets of aftermarket fog lights straight to the main headlights. I demanded the previous owner fully remove them prior to purchase. My tip for digging into this project is to have some pliers available in case your tilt wheel stem has never been...
Hey! What's up...fantastic. So just decided to become a Elite member! And if I'm an elite member, may aswell post in the Elite Registry! Let's cut to the chase, back in November of last year I picked up my first car, which is a 95 Explorer! Being 16 this is a huge step!! We picked it up for $700, we talked the guy down from $1500, with the only real issue being the brakes, they were basically shot, but we got it home and put new pads and bled the system the same day! Please let me know what you think! I will be posting more on this thread, I also have a list of "things to do" for it, which I will be posting soon aswell
Hello All, I've been browsing this forum for the past 5-6 months just looking at what people have done to their Rangers/Explorers/Mountys, trying to get ideas of what I'd like to do to my own. First I guess I'll throw in a little story as to how I purchased her :P I bought a 1993 Ford F150 Flareside with the 5.8 351W back in February for $1,600 and restored her from top to bottom, and ended up selling it a few months later because I didn't need a vehicle at the time and wanted to see someone get use out of her. About a week afterwards I ended up striking a good job about an hour away and needed a vehicle, and a friend of mine had recently introduced me to some cool neighbors I didn't know I had. I went over to their house to meet...
We bought it as a project and it sure has been one. We were told the engine was shot and torn apart that the transmission was newly rebuilt. I had a parts vehicle. so we got it. it was meant to be a fast 2 maybe 3 months to get it running. Swapped motor found out the transmission was shot. Did a manual swap and a manual t-case swap. Got it running in 3 months. then daily drove it worked bugs out of it. Took it to Moab seen a lot of other peoples rigs. purchased a locker for the rear gears 5.13 and a locker for the front. I have not had either installed yet. Front is a lunch box thinking e locker to match the rear. Had cut and turned beams done got some used extended radius arms and bds coils for the front and a soa done in the rear...
Note -- Most of you know this as easys94 .The rig did not have a name, I got to make a major run - Moab 2015. The rig got its name there. Anthony (aka Suicide77) is one that put the tag on it. So it will be the Green Buffalo or just the Buffalo for short I picked up a 94 EB 2d last night from Jay in Plano Tx. I need to thank Jay for all the work he has put into this rig. Hopefully I can keep it going. I also need to thank Kris Guilbeaux and Mike(TexasArmadillio) for puting me on to this last week at the meet in Elgin. I wasnt looking for a new rig, but after hearing them talk about it , I had to check it out - now its mine:D Mike (reaper) and I took it out to city lake earlier and gave it a little test run, they had...
Ok, time to consolidate and register this new gal. So I bought this one on May 17, 2013. Had 86k miles and came from Florida, so pretty much rust free. So wonderful to work on a truck that doesn't have rust falling all in your eyes, and bolts that aren't seized and fused into everything. The Timeline: Super Stock! Just making a few tweaks to my 2016 Explorer Platinum. I started with vinyl wrapping most of the chrome parts of the car (door handles, roof rack, mirrors, etc.) with RageWraps in Roseville, IL (guy works out of his garage). He recommended some "pin-striping". The car looks great but could have done better for what I paid for the matte black vinyl wrapping. I'm a little OCD with little things. Then I went to Top Coverage in Elgin, IL and had them powder coat the wheels matte black. I actually like the 20" stock rims and didn't want to dish out over $2500 for wheels and tires just yet. Powder coating was considerably cheaper. I also had them smoke the front head and rear lights and then asked them to dip/paint the front grille for a...
Better late than never! I bought my 2016 Interceptor Utility back in April and I finally have time to finish my write up about it. I ordered it in mid-January with an ETA of early April. Conrail managed to lose it once it was unloaded from the train in New Jersey but I finally got my hands on it on April 22nd. As it looked the day I picked it up... The following weekend, with the help of a good friend, I began installing all of the extras. I started off with a Setina push bumper. Current Mods (install date): Setina Pushbar (4/16) Havis radio tray (4/16) Havis center console (4/16) Gamber-Johnson laptop mount (4/16) Dash mounting plate (4/16) Trailer hitch & harness (5/16) Whelen Ion Strobes (4) (5/16) Whelen Vertex tail...
The wife and I picked this up last night. We traded in the F-150 for a more practical family car and something that Michelle would be comfortable driving (I drive her 4cyl Camry to work [40mi. one way] every day). The truck was just too big for her. The crazy thing is having a monthly payment of $180/mo is going to save me money (gas, insurance) from owning the F-150 outright. SPECS: Bone stock 2010 XLT black/black & tan 4.0 - (I wanted the v8 but I'm happy with the 6) 4x4 Brand new Kumho Adventurers. 3rd row seats The mods will be on hold for quite a while except I'm going to take the emblems off the back. Wesley already has more stuff in it than either of us.
