I used to own a 1996 OHV 4.0 Explorer, that was unfortunately taken from me due to unaffordable insurance after an accident that I was wrongly blamed for. Many years later, I decided I wanted to buy another Explorer, as I always had plans for my original one, but it was taken from me too soon. In 2010, I found the perfect project Explorer, after several weeks of searching Autotrader and Kijiji (it's like Canadian Craigslist). The truck was located in Montreal, Quebec, and I went to pick it up over the weekend of my 27th birthday. I got it for $7000 cash, with only 77,500 original KMs on the odometer. It was black, which I wanted, Limited, which I wanted, 4x4, which I wanted, and had the 4.0 SOHC V6 engine. I was looking for the V8...
So, lets start at the top, on June 23, 2011, at about 1pm I bought my 1996 Eddie Bauer Edition V8 AWD Ford Explorer, which to be honest I really didn't want, What I really wanted was a 4x4 V8 pickup truck, but I settled for The Explorer because it was in my price range, and it seemed like a good buy. This is the Day before I bought it... It had about 152,x.. miles on it, and I paid $2600 out the door for it. I am fairly certain the DAY OF buying the Explorer I joined this site!!! About a week later the Alternator gave up the ghost, so it sort of gave me a bad taste in my mouth. Regardless I went here found out how to replace it and fixed my truck, YAY ME! it took me a solid week to clean it up to my liking, but when it was done I...
So I sold my 03 ranger and it was a sad day. I had been looking for something slightly more family friendly and still capable (with a little help of course) and I had my eyes out for a first gen in good running shape. Well the search went on for several months, when a red sled came up for sale almost 400 miles away but it would give me a chance to visit family. However, it disappeared and I thought nothing of it. It magically reappear on a consignment auction slightly closer (350 vs 400 miles). So I contacted the owner. Come to find out this is a 2 owner truck that was purchased by the former owners mother in '93 and then when she stopped driving, he bought it and drove it for the next 6 years. I probably gave a little much for...
This is my second 2nd Gen Explorer. I bought it on July 2nd of this year and was FINALLY glad to find one with a V8. Found it on Craigslist for $1650 with 233K Miles. It had some cosmetic damage and needed tires badly. It also has an aftermarket sunroof which needs to fixed. I can hear the motor working fine but it's not moving. Interior was in good shape for the most part just needed minor things but here it is. The day I got it home with my Explorer
Thanks for looking at my registry The good Gas tank was full 109k miles I am the 2nd owner!! Is from the local area, which means no salt! The undercarriage is fairly clean No dents to underside panels Good rubber Camber shims already installed Looks like good service records, all recalls were completed. Clean carfax believe it or not. The "maybe" bad The original owner, told the dealership it had a bad "heater core" however I have run it for several cycles, over an hour each idling in the driveay and see no leaks. However, there was evidence of a windshield leak or the like,I saw condensation on the inside of the windows this AM. The moisture smell is that of water only-no anti freeze smell. I am thinking it...
Recently joined the forum after purchasing our 2004 Explorere XLT V8 4wd to replace our ailing '04 Pontiac Montana. I've already benefited from the knowledge base here having diagnosed the rear ABS sender malfunction and how to find the combination key code. Along with the repairs mentioned we've replaced the passenger side rear wheel bearing and and the shift indicator needle assembly. I have some regular maintenance stuff I'll be doing as we go along. As we bought her... Broken fog light... A little bit of wear and tear on the driver's seat... Yes we are members of the split rear trim club... The "X" came with really nice winter tires on the stock alloy rims so we decided to pick up new wheels with new summer...
New Explorer to add to the garage: Specs: 4.0 SOHC 5r55e 2WD 3.73 gears Graphite Leather Sunroof 266k miles Audiophile Sound Engine apparently has been replaced as well as the transmission. I picked it up for a song with a working SOHC with no "Death Rattle" and a leaking transmission line. Also all the electronics work, minus the overhead console, and as a cool bonus, the A/C works!! (pun intended) The bad: 3 different brands of tires Ball Joints and Tie Rods Shot Body Mount Bushings Shot Interior Needs Work This is the poorly patched transmission line that initiated the sale. Looks like they used some very thin rubber tubing and it just split, dumping the ATF. :wtf: I replaced with 100psi oil tubing and two hose clamps...

Well hello all! I've been following along for a while, since I got my 2001 Sport Trac in October of 2011 with 98k miles. The only additions at this point is a sticker and the nerf bars I found this site fairly quickly but really didn't have the monetary means or the time to do anything major to it. First thing was the addition of a topper for some cross country moving to Idaho The shorty with a totally loaded back end. Poor thing has some saggy ass.. Arrived in Idaho with an unloaded truck finally. Doesn't look nearly so sad Finally I got my nerve up and added a 1" TT and 265/75/16 bfg at's Next I got a K&N Air Intake system after reading a bunch about it on here (LONO was the real culprit in making me want one lol)...
Hi everybody my names frank and from Orange County California but currently live in Riverside County. I have a 2003 Explorer Sport XLT 2WD. I bought it in 2010 after graduating hs for around 8k from the dealer, it was a one owner with only 44,000 thousand miles at the time. For the first year of owning it, it was completely stock with only bfg all-terrains in stock size changed on it. But then..... I found this forum after searching for some issue I was having at the time, don't really remember what it was. After that I slowly started changing things on my ex and making it more too my liking. My ex is 2wd and most of the stuff I've done to it now is more for personal preference but I plan on making it desert worthy in the next...
Thank you TBars, I hope I am doing this right. LoL I have a 2004 Ford Explorer Sort Trac XLT It's stock with the exception of bull bar, nerf running boards, and hitch. I bought in May of 2013 with 93,678 miles on it. I did change the factory door speakers with Kenwood on the front and Kickers in the rear doors. Alpine is the receiver that came with the truck. I am currently doing one project on the truck with the running lamps, it hadn't came with any, doing the climate/radio bezel change to have added switches.
1997 4.0 SOHC, RWD, XLT, 4 door, Automatic, 16000+. She is mostly original, as in the hoses she rolled off the lot with. I bought her from the original owners, who only did the NEEDED maintenance. Named Bruja because she will bite if you touch her with a wrench. Invested: $1000 Purchase $1000 5 new tires and new spare rim. (Story to follow) $500 repairs so far. New Power Steering line, fan belt, idler and tension pulleys, thermostat housing assembly, sensors, and hoses mounted to the thermostat. Needed: General Maintenance, Transmission, Rear End, Shocks. Drivers Seat and seat covers to match. Thinking of switching to high mileage synthetic. Plugs and wires. A/C Kit - leaking from the compressor. Stereo System, factory radio is...
Hey guys okay so i have a regular registry where i did a few small things, then the elite registry where i got the AAL/ TT twist and some 32's. well it is now time to FINALLY go big and actually make a movement with the truck. i have a few things that im planning to do but not sure the best order or anything. a little bit about the truck... 2000 mounty v8 AWD with 32" tires AAl/ shackles/ tt twist. 157k miles the vehicle is currently my DD and come may i will have a company car with 100% free gas/ insurance/ etc. so the mounty will get the lift i have always wanted and only be used for fun, offroading, when i dont feel like driving the company car, and winter time when the roads are just too bad for the car. For those of you...
