Hello My name is Gilbert (Gil) and I live in Orlando, Fl. I'm a biker, the fun friendly type not the crazy (some of my friends would disagree on this) and too scary looking to talk to type. I'm an electronics technician and computer nerd. I've worked on enough cars and bike to know that give me good directions and tools and I can take anything apart and usually put it back together so it works. Well enough about me and now to what everyone is more concerned about my Ex. A little over a year ago a friend of mine was having tranny problems with her 92 Explorer 4x4. She didn't have the money to fix it and was just going to sell it to one of those "We buy junk cars" places. I told her that she would only get $250 or so for it and she...
Whats In A Name? It was hot humid august night. The winds have all but vanished. I was doing my best to keep the sweat out of my eyes. The A/C was dying in my 94 Explorer, lovingly named "Pugly", and there was no relief in sight. I decided it was time to stop throwing good money into bad. I was gonna do the unthinkable,.......I was going to commit the most heinous crime of them all! I was going to trade Pugly in for a newer model! Oh the heart break! The insanity of it all! I couldn't believe the thoughts were even going through my head. I managed to get the old girl back home, to her resting place. She seemed at ease in her familiar surroundings. I had to come up with an explanation to let her know of my evil plan. So i just...
Hey y'all! Thought I ought to get a thread going for my ride, the 97Sandbox. The nickname comes from the double mid prairie tan color scheme -- basic as can be, but hey, it hides dirt like none other. My dad bought the Explorer in 2006 from the original owner and I took ownership of the truck in 2017 (although I've been driving it since 2010). It came into our family while we were all living in Missouri, but I eventually took the '97 with me to Kansas and later to Wisconsin where it resides now. I'll kick things off with a brief history of my infatuation with Explorers, then I'll run through what I've done so far, and I plan to keep posting as I continue to modify the vehicle. Stock specs: 4.0 SOHC, 5R55E, RWD with the 3L73 rear end

It has been a long time coming, but I finally have everything I need for my thread. The main hang up I have had is that I needed to wash Dillo. I listed all the fun information below along with some pictures. Let me know what yall think. Any hints, tips, or advising would be deeply appreciated. Truth be told, I did not really get into customizing my Explorer until I stumbled across this forum. I would like to thank all of you for your informative posts that I have uncovered already, and for the future posts I have yet to see. Basic Information: Name: Mike Location: Arlington, TX Occupation: Operations Manager for Hanes Geo Components Dillo's current specs: Transmission: 5R55E (stock) Tires: 235R1670 Goodyear Integrity Wheels: Stock...
There is an old saying that when you are a child you play with childish things, when you grow up you must put them away for adult things. Well, I decided to find the gray area. Becky and I had to come to the decision that if we were going to have a family we needed to get a family vehicle. Unfortunately, that meant getting rid of Dillo since that was only only a 2-door sport. We decided to go window shipping two weeks ago just to see what is out in the market space. My criteria was simple. I wanted a 4th generation with 4x4. I figured since I had never owned a 4x4 before this was the perfect time to get one. So, we went to our local dealership and just asked to see what they had. The salesman told us to wait that they just received a...
I am fairly new to these forums. I used to be on SXC alot. Since I have signed up and started posting here I have gotten more motivated to start doing more work to my truck. I will be posting more up to date pictures as I install the new brakes and intake parts. Also the stereo has changed some. I am also working on a 8" kenwood touchscreen molded into a new radio bezel. Here are a couple pics of my truck or you can take a a more detail look here. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=98.

Well i'm finally elite, and I'll admit it was long overdue. I'll start off with my first explorer that died of transmission woes last year. It was a 91 XLT with only about 90K on the clock. Then in April of last year I moved on to my 88 Bronco II, which just recently died of engine failure. But it lived a long life with over 260K on the clock. And now to the lastet. It's a 2000 Mountaineer, V8, AWD. It's got 94k miles on it, and it's in really good shape, other than the all the dust from the previous owner living on a gravel road, and the headlight in the last pic, the chrome cap the covers the light fell off, anyone know how to reattach it?

This is my Explorer that I bought brand new in March 1998 and which currently has about 85k miles on the odometer. It's my daily driver and only vehicle I own, so I always keep it in good shape. I first lowered my X with the EE lowering kit but wasn't happy with the height, so I went lower with the torsion adjuster flip in the front and 3" blocks in the rear. Explorer express provided the Cobra R's and the X-Spec handling kit which includes the rear swaybar and Edlebrock IAS shocks. I installed a SS Speed Grille using one for an F150 and cut it to fit in the Explorer grille. A custom true dual Flowmaster 50 series exhaust setup was installed in the spare tire area. I had the bumpers and other exterior parts painted to match the...
