Solid Axle Swap Registry

If you have completed a solid axle swap on your Explorer and would like to share the results with others this is the place to do it:D This isn't the place to talk about a work in progress, rather a place for the FINAL results, specs, instructions etc
well i finally got the thing driveable. i am still lacking a front driveshaft (that is why i am bearly flexing in the pic, i had to creep up in 2wheel) the tranny pan has a slight leak, i need to replace a rear wheel seal but other then that its rockin. the 351 has about 55 psi when cold and about 25-30 hot. the motor runs cool, not sure how cool because i dont have a temp gauge but i am running a large electric fan, a rigid fan off the water pump, and a 160 degree thermostat. its a four core aluminum radiator that is the the same size as an explorer radiator. i am running the tranny cooler in the radiator and an aftermarket one. there are still quite a few little things i have to pick at to get right but its basically done...

It's the moment you've all been waiting for. It's not totally done all the way, but we just have minor things to do. What's left is: Rear brakes, attach front driveshaft, move the axle forward maybe 1-2", more welding, put Cory's steering on, then shocks. This should take less than a day to do. 91 Explorer Solid Axle Swap Hello everyone. This is a White 91 Explorer. Solid axle came out of an 89 jeep wrangler. Front leafs are new but from a jeep. The rear lift was made by using high arched "soft ride" leafs, and flipping over the axle. There are not any blocks! The front has 12 inch Fox shocks and resevoirs (though resevoirs are not in pictures, i am getting them installed this week. Iwill get new pictures as soon as that is done.) The Truck Has 37" Super Swampers SSR's on it right now but i will be putting 38" Tires on it when these wear out. I still have to measure it next to another but i believe the total suspension lift is about 15 inches plus the tire difference. The frame is 29" off the ground...

I don't have near as many pretty pics as most of you, and no build pics, but it works pretty damn well. Using the generic forklift test the front tires come 42" off the ground before a rear tire lifts, and both rearts lift bfore the front will, which Im thought kinda odd. I don't have any wheelin pics, but the two supplied are from a trip to Tellico last year....poor things been on the road ever since. Any queastions, let me know. Coda

Like everyone else here who swapped axles, I felt the need to get rid of my TTB after running 35?s for a couple years and breaking everything (shafts, spindles, hubs, joints, bent beams, cracked brackets, even cracked the diff in half upon snapping inner u-joint on pass side). I also wanted to get more flex. I followed the lead of several members here, but READ ON because I also have done some things that no one here has yet to have done or at least openly shared with everyone. Most of this custom work was modeled after my good friend Matt?s Cherokee who swapped 44s front and rear and his setup has worked very well for the past couple years. I?m also including a parts list as well as the vendor that I located the part if anyone...
I have a nasty squeal in the front brakes. I got new rotors and wheel studs. The rotor isn't completely tight against the hub. I've tried to get the studs as tight as possible. I'm just afraid that I'll snap a stud off. Guess I'll keep tightening them up. BUT here's what I did tonight. Oh who ever said about creaming your jeans in double low.....:exporange Need to build the xmember before I can flex the drivers side down. This is whats left in the shocks. About 2" droop and 3" compression left on the front. About 2" droop and 1" compression left on the rear.
Here is the build up of my Explorer for a SFA. The axle I used is a Dana 30 off of a Jeep. I bought the axle in December, so I had plenty of time work on it. I had it regeared to 4.56's. I also installed a Dead Link Removed. I've already got a Dead Link Removed in the 8.8. I put these diff guards on the front and rear too. Cory uses some pretty tough stuff. All of the links on the front axle use Hiem joints for the connections. The links are all customs made by Cory. All of his tubing used on the axle is 1 1/2" OD, 1/8" wall (I think). The coil buckets we used came from a race car magazine. They are adjustable for ride height. After 3 months of having the truck, he...
Kind of new to the forum. Signed up a while back but haven't posted much. Explorer specs. mostly stock 4.0, built A4LD, manual 1354, HP44 front, 9" rear. Front has 5.13's, ARB, high steer. Rear is detroited, 5.14's with a currie case, disk brakes with caddi calipers. 4" custom Alcan leafs in the rear. 5.5" BC bronco's EB springs in the front with custom coil buckets. 1 ton drag link end steering. AC pump converted to on board air run to rear bumper. Tires are 36x12.5x15" TSL SX's. I don't have a whole lot of pics of it. I usually go by myself and I don't have a camera. This winter it's getting a 5.0 HO swap, AOD to NP208, HP 60 front with the same gears and locker as now, and a dana 70 rear with...
