Another Saga... I purchased this 2002 XLT 4.0 in the Summer of 2015. TLDR; I bought a truck, drove it for a while, now the transmission is getting swapped. While I'm at it, might as well do some PM. It was listed on craigslist for $600 with a bad transmission but a healthy motor, body and interior. My intent was to use it as a parts source for my rotting 2003 EB 4.6, as well as my girlfriend's 2003 XLT 4.0 and my sisters 2004 XLT Sport 4.0 should they need anything. I was already ahead when my dad and I went to pick it up because the owner had said that it would not move under its own power but to our surprise it did. No need to use our ratcheting pulley to get it on our trailer, we just drove it on! Ambitiously, and unwilling to...
(I'm Xavier) Hey all. Sort of new here. I drive an Emerald Green 1993 Ford Explorer (93 is the model year, it was actually assembled in November 1992, so the truck is older than me by several months). It has the Eddie Bauer package and 2-wheel drive. I bought it used last year in December and it currently has 97,000+ miles on it. I recently had the transmission and O2 sensor replaced and I use it as a daily. Here's a photo: The photo was taken a couple weeks ago. In the time between it and now, the front left wheel center cover fell off so the center is now black. It has 2WD, which is fine since I don't off-road, but I would have liked the Limited's AWD or a simple 4x4 just in case I ever have to drive through rough road...
This is my Explorer, I plan to use this thread to post pictures and show my restorations, personalizations, improvements and so on. I'll list my specs so there is no confusion. 1995 Ford Explorer XLT, 4x4, 4.0 OHV v6, 310,000 estimated miles Bought new in November of 95', "the Explorer" has been in my family for over two decades. The Explorer has towed a 5,000 lb travel trailer, but currently it's used as a commuter and a tow vehicle for a utility trailer. I will be updating this thread with pictures and fixes I find. Problems(Updated December 2018): Fails Emission Test for hydrocarbons, Gauge Lights(Two are burnt out), Odometer stopped working(works 1/3 of the time), Passenger mirror has no horizontal adjustment, Liftgate shocks need...
So this will be my 5th Explorer. I've owned a 00' Eddie Bauer V8, a 99 OHV 2wd, an 01 Limited V8, and most recently, a heavily modified 94 prerunner. I sought out this specific combination for over a month. I am very picky about cleanliness. I needed 4x4, and I did not want to mess with a transfer case swap with a V8. So here is my spec list of the "perfect" Explorer that I was finally able to find. 98 XLT 147,000 miles SOHC/5R55E 4x4 4.10 Rear end with limited slip Color matched grill Running boards (could have lived without them) Leather interior An inch thick file of receipts! My plan for this truck is to keep it as a comfortable daily driver, as well as something that is capable enough for the overlanding adventures that I...
My 5L V8 XLT, the day I brought here home, right after a wash: ... Then noticed a broken taillight. /sigh It's got the funky green interior, which at first I wasn't sure about. It's grown on me, though. Other than the torn armrest, the only issues with the interior were a smoke smell, and human slime. It didn't take long for me to paint the grill, as I was never a fan of chrome, and it wasn't in excellent shape anyway. I also took off the plastic bugshield thinger, and found a healthy colony of ick under it. First real mod: 6 D-Cell MagLite. One of the things I carried over from my old Sport. The one surviving LED spot light from my Sport also got bolted on. Wired through a relay to come on with the reverse lights. The...
Let me start off by saying every one has there view of there own version of there perfect vehicle. My style may differ from some, but its MY style. When we modify vehicles we are showing who we are. You just have to know how to see it to understand. ALSO A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERY ONE THAT HAS HELPED WITH INFORMATION FROM THE SITE SO FAR!!! With that said my story starts in late October/early november of 2016, when i picked up my 1999 ford explorer I quickly found out the vehicle has a metric **** ton of issues.... power steering system needs work. stereo needs work as it didn't. Needs tierods inner and outer. Needs tires... needs tuneup...badly Needs an oil change. needs a tail light housing. needs tail light pigtail needs wiper...

Hi all! Just thought I'd post something about my own Explorer for once. I'm a 18 year old Minnesota college student, therefore I needed something cheap and reliable to drive to and from campus. The first car I had ever driven was a 2000 Explorer XLT, which is now my sister's. I loved driving it, even with its transmission problems. Anyway, I found this gem of an Explorer on craigslist for $400 last April, bought it for $325. It only had 124k miles on it when bought! I don't have much of a before/after comparison sadly, except for the one picture of the drivers side turn signal. Hours of blood and sweat (figuratively and literally) have gone into getting her up and running. Anyway here's the only picture before all of my work on it...
