man ive been a faithfull ford hater and chevy driver since i was a teen and my wife was to.well that all changed when to my surprise my wife wanted to trade in the old 87 gmc v1500 4x4 and test drove a 93 xlt well we own it now and i like it.the first thing i did was to change the plugs(+4s)oil filter air filter and fully synthetic mobil 4x4 oil.then ripped out this crappy alarm system and remote starter that was faulty (to be replaced with better system)then put in a 6 disc cd changer.the cat heat sheild was rattling so took that out to realize that there was tranny vacume line that i broke(53cent fix).so anyway like i said its a 93 has 90,000 miles and no rust anyware well maintained paid 6000 and ive been drawn to the dark side.
OK. I'm finally about to get some photos of my truck posted. I don't have a digital camera yet, so I have to do it the slow, old-fashioned way of using a 35mm camera, developing them, then scanning them in. I'm too old for all that high tech stuff (not true, but my wife will kill me if I spend more $$$ on fancy electronic toys). Should be plenty of pics up by tomorrow. ( I hope).
Hi all and Happy New Year to you all.... Being a new owner, and loving it more each day I was wondering if there were any Explorer clubs out there in the UK, or if there are ever any meets arranged anywhere in the UK. Its great to read about what all the guys and gals get up to over in the USA, but it does leave me a little jelious :) If there is anything going on over here and anyboby can give me any info I would be very grateful..... I am in Harlow in Essex if anyone is close by your welcome to get in touch!
My X is a 1999 UK 'North Face' model , this has colour coded bumpers etc , as in the UK we don't tend to go for chrome as much as you guys across the pond .Leather interior and all of the other goodies . The first change I'm making to it is getting it converted to run on LPG , petrol is about $6.70 a gallon in the UK after that fool Tony Blair has had his tax , LPG is under $3.20 a gallon so quite a saving if you do a few miles . :uk:
Hi all! Just thought I'd post something about my own Explorer for once. I'm a 18 year old Minnesota college student, therefore I needed something cheap and reliable to drive to and from campus. The first car I had ever driven was a 2000 Explorer XLT, which is now my sister's. I loved driving it, even with its transmission problems. Anyway, I found this gem of an Explorer on craigslist for $400 last April, bought it for $325. It only had 124k miles on it when bought! I don't have much of a before/after comparison sadly, except for the one picture of the drivers side turn signal. Hours of blood and sweat (figuratively and literally) have gone into getting her up and running. Anyway here's the only picture before all of my work on it...

So I started out just trying to make a nice clean XLT with a mild lift in it. Then My fiance and I had a falling out so I took out all my frustrations on my truck and it grew! Here's what I came up with! That was before I added the 3" body lift 2 more inches to the front suspension and a 1" leaf to the rear Front shot with the new radiator support and nose on it (Yes I know there is a makeshift wooden body mount! for some reason the kit was one short) Comparison shot to a stock 86 Ranger (92 nose conversion done to the 86) So in the end I came up with a completely rust free XLT 11" of total lift in it, Dana 44 front axle relocated 6" forward for steering clearance, 6" coil up front with new fabricated mounts...
YEAR: 1997 MODEL: XL 4WD CITY: Edmonton PROVINCE: Alberta EMAIL: marktreleaven1@hotmail.com WEB PAGE: The Sexplorer PRICE: $1350 KILOMETERS AT PURCHASE Approx. 176,000 Here is a picture of the truck as it sits right now(December 26, 2008) Here is a picture of the intake I made(December 26, 2008) Future plans: I have a lot of plans of dressing the truck up with a nice system, some handy LED interior lights, a lift, beefy tires, roof cargo cage with AUX lights, but for the most part I want to follow Aldive's lead and try to get the best fuel economy I can. That being said, I am aware that a lift and cargo cage and what not will make it harder to get better fuel economy, but why not have the best of both worlds right.

I have a 2016 Explorer. I have no experience in anything further than changing the oil and putting the gas and window washer fluid in it. Problem is I have been told there should be a cooling vent piece that cools the transmission. It's not there. The fluid overheats regularly. How much should be put in when it is changed and where can I find that mysterious cooling attachment that will help with that?
Hi all, Has anyone ever had a problem with a 97XLT transfer case. I was using mine New years day on the beach , doing nothing to harsh with it. When i went to dis-engage the low range when coming off the beach , it wouldnt come out. The 4X4 lights on the dash were blinking for about 10 seconds every minute or so??? Does anyone have any ideas. Car is going back to ford for repairs , but just curious if anyone has an i dea on what is the problem here. Thanks in advence.
Traded in my explorer for an 07 eddie bauer expedition in carbon metallic. These trucks are awesome. It is night and day between my explorer. Has a whole lot more power and shifts smoothly. Reason for trading was, got fed up with having to take the damn thing to the dealership for electrical problems all the time. They gave me what i wanted for my ex, wish it had been a little higher but I am very happy with my decision. Had planned on taking the black heads and corners off, bull bar off, kkm off, and tailight guards, but they gave me a little compensation for everything and i didnt have to hassle myself by changing everything back to stock.
