So got the truck about a year an a half ago from a dealer auction. At that time it had around 120k miles and currently it's a little over 170k(Yes, I drive a lot.) But all in all it's been a good car to me. Have a couple of pictures of the truck below, completely stock. Just last night, dad was driving and as he was taking a turn and slowing down the rear driver side outer tie rod end snapped out of place and is need of replacing. Also, the struts need changing as well but that will have to wait for now. I have a pic of that and will be replacing it in the morning.
Hey guys, I own a 1997 Explorer Sport 4x4. Its all stock although pretty soon I'm gonna do the 2inch torsion bar lift with shackles in the rear. I just purchased BF Goodrich All Terrains in the LT265 75R16 variety, basically 32 inchers. I'm from the Philadelphia area in PA. I dont know any wheeling around here yet but if you know of some, let me know because I'm itchin to see how an explorer does offroad. E-mail is rafar99@hotmail.com. Thanks!
Hey guys, I've only posted on the forums a few times, but I've found a lot of help on here over the last year and a half since I got my nearly broken-down Ford explorer with 117,000 miles on it. Since then, I've learned how to work on cars in general (with lots of help from here), and have been upgrading my poor old Ford. It started out looking like this (Well, I added that chipgaurd to the bottom...) After blowing an intake manifold gasket and cracking the heads (Gasket blowing yielded cracked heads, was on the interstate), had it slammed into by a trans-sport van. (New rear driver's side door, that guy needed a new van. I actually had to pull part of his bumper out of my tire and get it remounted.) Now looked like...
2001 Explorer Sport 2wd Bono, AR (just north of Jonesboro) email: tonyraine@gmail.com Used to be lowered in the front, then I bought some 31" mud tires and lifted it back up, plus a little. K&N filter, Flowmaster 40 series + turndown. Leather, sunroof, (removed)running boards, 20% tint. Got a buddy at a Hot Rod Shop that is going to weld me up lift shackles after I finish getting moved into my new house (he has my steel and plans, just waiting for the go-ahead). Then I'll TT the front a little more, get an alignment, and see if my old 33's from my bronco will fit. If not, I'll sell them and buy some 32x11.5's I painted some interior pieces, but it looks like ricer crap to me, so I'm thinking changing to dark blue, black...
Here's my registry. It's not going to really serve as much of a build log or anything, just to help keep track of the (minor) things I do to it along the way. (Edit: yeah, that all turned out to not be true...... Keep reading to see what I mean) This is my 1997 XLT. I bought it on 10/13/2010 with 117,500 miles for $2000. It has the SOHC V6, 3.55 rear end and the "Controltrac 4 wheel drive". This is basically as it was when I brought it home: Interior shots:PG[/IMG] (lost photos) Features: side-step boards 6,000 lb receiver Ford mudflaps (removed) hood wind/bug deflector This Explorer wasn't abused- just a little neglected. The interior is in good shape. The paint isn't in horrible shape- some dings and scratches here and...
i've been on this site for over a year now, and never posted any pics. honestly, it's because it was stock and ugly. well, i finally got underway with it, and installed the 3" BL, TT, and had custom leaf springs made. we also remounted the sensors for the air shocks, so that when in 4wheel drive i still get the extra 2-3" lift. http://www.cardomain.com/id/toddious . let me know what you guys think, and thanks for all the help and info this past year, there are many more mods to come (brush guard, roof rack, lockers, lights everywhere, dual exhaust). todd.
