...This is a compilation of info and links I have found very useful on this site, including items I have learned over the years...Just my favorite links to the noted subject's...:D ...The wheel size does not make the tire rub...The tire and backspacing cause/eliminate this...;) ...The preferred size wheel for the Explorer and Ranger is, 15"x8" 5-4.5 with 3.75 Backspacing...You can fit up to a 12.50" wide tire on this wheel.. ...If you look at the tire size and lift charts here, they will give you the correct amount of lift needed for minimal, to no rubbing with the stock size wheels,(15"-16" tall)...A 15x10 wheel basically will give you a deeper dished wheel and usually, the back spacing size they come with will cause the...
This is kind of a safety issue that I've noticied a few companies are having. My brother bought some Eagle Alloys for his Ranger and had them installed at the shop I work at (I didn't work on it thankfully). Anyhow, few months pass and he was coming home from college and his right rear wheel almost fell off. The lugs somehow backed off. Now - there's no hard evidence that it was because of the wheels needing to be retorqued - but what makes it harder is that he was up at Virgina Tech the day before with a damn UVA sticker in his back window. Pranksters - maybe? Anyhow, so he bought a new wheel and he was good to go. Months later I had to go to a 4wd shop and get some lug nuts and I noticed at the bottom a disclaimer: So...
I just scored a nice deal on a set of 5 BFG KM3s that someone may be interested in. 4WheelParts has them in a 7.50R16 size at a discount price (~$175, plus $25 off per tire, plus they pay tax) that I was able to get discount tire to price match at 5 for $875 out the door, with the $70 mfg rebate comes out to ~$160/tire installed including tax (so $805 for 5 out the door!). The 7.50R16 is a tall narrow tire. ~31.8” tall and ~8.7” wide on a 6.5” wide rim. Works on 16”x5.5” to 16”x7” rims. E rated. For reference, the more common 235/85R16 size is ~31.6” tall and 9.4” wide. Not sure when the 4WheelParts discount ends, so you may want to jump on it if you’re interested. Cheers!
I´m still searching for summer-rims for my Eddie, and because the SLX / XLT are delivered with 16"´s, I decided today to swap the wheels from my 99 XLT with those from my Eddie. Dim´s : 99 XLT : 7 x 16 " Offset 12 , 255 / 70 R 16 06 Eddie : 7.5 x 18" Offset 44 , 235 / 65 R 18 Guess a 7 x 16" Offset "0" with 255´s will fit perfekt, or 275´s on a 7 x 16 Offset 12. But if you think about using the 18" from the Eddie on a second-gen : use spacers ! There are two reasons : 1.) If you turn the steering to the limit, the fronttires will rub on the crossbar / stabilizer 2.) the GE-Version with the big plastic fenderflares looks like a twintire-sys lost the outer wheel. ;) Here are some pics, have fun ! At first my...
I own a 1999 Explorer Eddie Bauer 4x4 V6 SOHC I want to replace the OEM tires (Firestone 255/70/R16) but I am not sure about the size of my new tires. My rims are 16x7 I like the aggressive look of the Mickey Thompson Baja Belted HP. These are the options: 29 x 9.5 - 16LT 30 x 9.5 - 16LT 31 x 10.5 -16LT Also I like the Scorpion Zero Tire 275/60 R16 285/65 R16 In your opinion, which Mickey Thompson Tire will be the best for my truck? and anybody knows if the 285/65 R16 will fit my truck? Thanks
After determining that the only wheel style I really like comes in polished aluminum only, wondered if anyone had any first hand experience with 'Zoopseal'? Does it work as advertised, and what should I pay for it? Is it worth $125? Any other sealants that work well on polished that are cheaper? Thanks, from a LAZY:D Mctoy
Well, it's official as of today. These should be in as of Monday (getting the wheels shipped from Anahiem, CA to Chatsworth, CA). My final price on all of this was $2085.75 on the truck and out of the bay. Only $100 more than doing it online, and I get a ton more warranties locally. This worked out real well. I also found out Panther made an exact replica of their Adana 340, and it's even cheaper, but they don't have the offset for the Explorer. Anyways, this is sort of my "worklog" for the setup. I'm extremely excited, but I'll have a nice $2k+ debt with interest for the next few months, but it's okay, adding another job as of July. Oh, and did I mention it's a 3.5" deep dish wheel? :) Zinik Z1 Shogun 20's Falken...
Ok Ok I know all of you are going to yell at me for even considering another tire over bfg at kos..But I saw the yokohama geotrackers today and they looked pretty stinkin tough..Any words on them? Im sure someone has something to say...By the way I saw a set of 31 (stuck in the)Wilderness ATs ...$60 a peice!! They cant give em away!
I'm looking at a set of used Super Diggers. They're at least a few years old, with a tread pattern that to me is not quite a mud tire, but more aggressive than an all terrain. The out side sidewall has several thick rings where the tread ends. They're in good enough shape with decent tread left, however I'm hesitant about the composition of the rubber itself. It seems on the hard side, like it's made for high mileage, or maybe it's from age? Has any of you ever owned these, or do you know about different rubber compounds? ------------------ Bill Collins 93 Ranger XLT 4X4 Modified
