Need for Speed!

Explorer, Ranger, Mountaineer 4.0 - 4.6 - 5.0 Nitrous, Superchargers, Camshafts, Head Work, Stroker Kits... DRAG RACING. Explorers, Mountaineers and Rangers CAN move!
ok so its time to start on the v8 swap. I need to know which 5.0 is best for droping in my 92. Should i get one out of an explorer? Mustang? Thunderbird? ive been told to stay away from crown vics cause of smaller intake runners. What year should I buy? Its sounds most logical to get one out of as late an explorer as I can since they would have the newest motors. Also what years did ford run the speed-density system so I'll know to stay away from em. Thanks guys I can't wait to get this thing in the garage!
Hey guys. So I got a bit of money for my birthday and am looking at putting a new Air Intake System in. I have the 5.0 V8 so that limits my options for CAIs for whatever reason. I know that there is the Airmax that MoutaineerGreen did a write up on. My questions is does anyone else have this intake? If so, how has it worked for you? Does anyone have side-by-side comparisons of that intake with others? Obviously, the MAC is popular, and I imagine, for good reason. I know the Airmax has a heat shield that bolts down to where the OE box did, does the MAC have that as well? Does anyone buy into the idea that Airmax's internal rifling of a tube can help the air move better? It seems to me that all that would do is slow the air...
I recently became the owner of an '02 4.0L V6 SOHC Limited. I was planning on modding it with the basics: intake, exhaust, and chip. However, there are a lot of chips on the market (Apten, Diablo, Superchip, etc). I was just curious as to which is the best or the best value if they are about the same. Thank you.
I just dropped a little over $400 for methanol injection, supposedly going to add between 30-40 HP at the wheels and FINALLY got my Apten chip reburned. While on my quest to embarass a few lightnings, the last thing on my mind has been my AWD transfer case. How much power can it handle ? With what I've got planned I'll have a little over 400 HP at the flywheel by the end of this year.
I want to replace my stock wheels (and tires) but am not sure what size to go with. I am thinking either 18's or 20's but am not sure which. I was set to go with 18's. but then I saw a very clean '98 the other day running 20's and it looked surprizingly good. Does anyone know how much 18's or 20's are going to hurt my low end torque? Is my X going to be totally dog slow from the line? I am running basically a stock OHV with a few mods. I am guessing that both the 18's and 20's are going to have a higher unsprung weight than my stock wheels/tires, but I don't know how performance is going to be affected. They guys at the tire store only whant to sell me a set, so I can't take anything they say seriously. Any input/advice would be...
i have an 02 4.0L V6 explorer XLT it currently has K&N intake and custom exhaust i'm looking to put a chip in it, whats the best one i can get for a reasonable price? i dont really know much about chips or how they work or whats good so any suggestions would be appreciated i've looked at the Xcal2 but i cant find anything that SAYS its made FOR a ford explorer, maybe i'm just not looking in the right place sry if this has already been discussed in another thread, im new.
as the title says...what would it take with awd 5.0? i plan on heads, but what would be best? no nitrous. was thinking motorsport x heads for the smaller ports to keep torque up, but should i be considering more flow like the performers rpms? can i do 13s without a supercharger? if i can get 350 hp (a good h/c/i should do that), calculators say i can, but i assume they are based upon a rear drive and likely a manual trans or high stall automatic.
I'm sure this question gets asked alot but I have not read anything about this topic yet. As it sits now it's a bone stock 97 EB V-8 AWD with 54K. I am wanting to add some ponies. I can feal that the stock motor is restricted from some nice HP. It feels sluggish off the start but has some nice pickup in 2000 and up RPM range so here's what I am looking so far, now I know there mild mods but it should feel better than stock. Flowmaster 50 series Superchip Cold Air intake Whats a stock V-8 run in the 1/4 mile, anyone? Thanks guys(gals).
Hey ive been checking this site out for a long time but i just now decided to register. My dad has a '96 X XLT and i get it in 2 and a half years. I am wondering what i should get (or convince him to get;) "but it gets better miles per gallon!!") so wat can i do?? I know about alot of things i could get to make it go faster (supercharger, N2O, Exhaust, Intake) but models would be nice and i also need to know what i would need to run the things you suggest safely. Thanks in advance. The Sponge
