Explorer, Ranger, Mountaineer 4.0 - 4.6 - 5.0 Nitrous, Superchargers, Camshafts, Head Work, Stroker Kits... DRAG RACING. Explorers, Mountaineers and Rangers CAN move!
Welcome to the "Need For Speed" forum. This is the place to put your questions and comments about power adders such as nitrous oxide and superchargers, as well as your thoughts about racing and Explorer speed. Small tweaks such as air filters and such might still find their way to the modified and under the hood forums, but if you want to post them here, you may. Anything to do with horsepower and torque are welcome!
Well, the nitrous oxide (N2O) install is finished. I'll attempt to produce a reasonable writeup for the install. I started with ZEX nitrous oxide kit #82011. Dead Link Removed This kit includes the bottle, all lines and hoses, the controller box, injection nozzle, and arming switch. I mounted the bottle in the rear cargo compartment in place of the net pocket: Dead Link Removed Here's the bottle covered: Dead Link Removed I currently also have a gray laundry bag wrapping the entire bottle and mounts. The bottle is mounted to the floor between the interior panel and the outer body with a custom 1/4" steel bracket. The bracket is bolted through the floor (soon to another plate underneath) with grade 8 hardware. Thus the...
So, who can tell that I have a huge grin on my face? Got Splat dynoed today. I did 3 runs with air/fuel monitoring. It cost $100 + tax. Here are the #'s: Pass 1: 169.2 hp, 238.2 torque Pass 2: 182.7 hp, 216.5 torque Pass 3: 197.4 hp, 250.3 torque I think of it this way: I got 30 rwhp for 100 bucks. Pass 1 maxed in third gear, while both 2 and 3 were in second. The tweaking was done after pass 2. We closed the fuel bleeder valve on the FMU and set the timing controller to full boost. This gave me a lot more fuel down low and really flattened both the hp and torque curves out. It was a lot of fun! For those of you who're wondering, intake temp was about 65F and absolute barometric pressure was around 29.5". I'm...
Well, my face looks exactly like that little green grinning guy. IT'S INSTALLED!!! I'm really tired right now, so pics and more details will by up soon. However, here's the scoop: Power is wonderful across the board. My concerns about the lack of the Hypertech chip are unfounded. The stock tranny program (I don't think the BBK computer modifies it) is perfect. The blower actually makes more power at relatively lower RPMs, so the earlier shift points work well. I will need to upgrade the fuel pump soon. The stocker is fine for now, but the added stress is going to burn it out soon. The stock injectors are fine, and the new FPR does a good job. The FPR does have a slight lag time in bleeding off excess fuel, so after...
I'm probably posting this prematurely, but I'm so excited! It turns out I just got an infusion of cash, so I might be able to afford the supercharger! I have to somehow get my parents to approve and help out a little bit, but I think its very possible I could have it done by late January. I also have to determine if I can do it myself (with a little help), or if I need to have it professionally installed. I'll also need to get a larger MAS, so that's another $300. So has anyone heard anything lately about the BBK supercharger? I know there was a big buzz a while back, and I even called truckperformance.com to see what's up. I'm gonna give them another call and ask them if they've shipped any, and if they're actually shipping on...
