So you want to do a V8 swap in your Explorer, Ranger, or Bronco II? Well here is a compilation of V8 swap threads- old general tech thread by Gofast 5 liter and 4R70W into a 1st gen. by seth2472006 5 liter and 4R70W into an 03 Ranger by rwenzing 5 liter and T5 into a 1st gen. by Chief34 4 liter M5OD to A4LD to 5 liter 4R70W by 410 Fortune 5.0L/4R70W 2WD into a 1st Gen (WITH a 2nd Gen Dash Swap) Spdrce
I picked up this 1991 Ranger a few days ago to become my daily driver and who knows maybe a few small off road mods. It is a 1991 4wd XLT standard cab long bed with 122k miles. Powering it is a 4.0 5 speed manual and an electric shift tcase. Inside is a near perfect 60/40 bench zero cracks in the dash and a perfect headliner. Also it has AC, cruise, power windows and locks. The previous owner installed a 4 inch rough country lift and 32" tires but the factory 3.55 gears remain. The truck does need some work. There were a few vacume leaks I already fixed under the hood. The rear main seal is leaking pretty bad and needs to be replaced soon. There is no muffler or exhaust behind the new cats the PO installed. It currently...
Ok. I've found a 2018 Police Utility Interceptor (PUI) AWD with 76k miles, 7583 engine hours, 5441 idle hours. 10 PM's documented on carfax. $17,000. I am wondering if anyone in here has an opinion on if this is a good deal. I plan on having a mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection before I move forward. I'm new to the explorers and have some preconceived ideas about the benefits of finding a low mileage, well maintained PUI. I have done some research and based upon what I saw, 2013-2017 were years to avoid. I also tried to compare civilian Base (although FWD) models and I can't find anything close to this price (within 3 to 4k) in my area. I posted this information on a Facebook group called Ford Police Interceptor Sedans and have...
Goal is to convert the D35 to 6 lug while increasing strength and durability. Please save your breath about why I should just save all the time time and money and just do a SAS because it’s better in every way. I’m a nerd and TTB is one reason I love old midsize Ford Junk. Subject is currently 200% stock 93 X 3.73 5spd Build goal - Budget minded daily driver with good road manners, decent flex, max traction (lots of snow) Family friendly trail rig for hunting camping and dicking off. I’m aiming for comfy suspension and will retain small tires for now so I can still hit highway speeds with the stock gearing. Will probably go to a max of 33’s if I get the hybrid gear swap done in the trans. After looking at current wheel tire...
What’s up everyone? I’ve recently hit a deer with my Explorer. It’s at the body shop and they’re just about done with it, BUT they can’t find a front grille for this thing. Ford has it on back order with no eta. I’ve only had the vehicle a month so this is driving me nuts. We’ve checked all over. The part number is JB5Z-8200-BD. Can anyone help with any suggestions? Thanks Joe
Hello my Ford peeps, I was wondering if I could get some advice about lockers. Here's my scenario: I have an '05 ST Adrenalin. It will be my non-daily driver offroad rig build. I will install a 3" torsion key lift for the front and a 2" add a leaf in the rear. I'm gonna run 265/75r16 AT's (most likely Falken Wildpeaks) on stock wheels. I live in Vegas and will camp/overland in this rig. I will also road trip to Utah and Arizona. I will occasionally tow a tear drop trailer. And my wife and child will be with me. It's sort of a budget build. I'd like it to be an efficient and safe rig at a lower cost. I am undecided on an automatic locker vs a selectable locker. My main concern with automatic lockers is the stories of...
So I have built a 92 ranger sas a 91 explorer and now came a cross a 98 explorer. Thanks to everyone here I have figured out the t case, and the vss issue.. but one thing I don't really see much depth on, is the steering box.. the threads talk about it and then go wayyy off topic. So I read a gen 1 box will work. I know I have to move relocate the oil filter. But I don't see any clear pictures to get any ideas. I see A lot of broken links. Or I see a few ifs toy boxes which I'm not opposed to just trying to use parts I have. So any ideas or pictures would be much appreciated!!
So before I trash the whole truck, I've been fighting an axle seal leak on my 76 f150 d44 in my ranger. The right inner axle seal refuses to seal. I've put three seals in and a new inner shaft, still leaks gear oil. My axle had national #5131 seals in it when I got it(it's been rebuilt and wheeled with). The other style (#2300 on broncograveyard) does not fit my axle. Are there any other options to try and seal this thing up??
Here in Nova Scotia, we mostly wheel in the woods and on the powerlines, where it's overgrown, muddy, snowy and dry in the summer. I've decided to not put a ton of money into the TTB and do a solid axle swap. I bought a set of '197x' F150 axles - High Pinion open knuckle Dana 44 and Ford 9 inch with 4.56 gears. '197x' because the rear end is stamped 73, and it has drums up front so it could be a 73..who knows. I've previously done this same swap on a 2002 Xterra with an 8.8 and a '79 HP Dana 44, so I'm armed with some lessons learned from that project. Namely, the upper coils towers were too far inbound, so the coils had a slight angle, which ended up pushing the radius arms off the axle mounts due to sideways stress. A few thing...
OK, here goes...my 92 Explorer just about to go to a 1976 F150 HP Dana 44 and Ford 9 inch with 4.56 gears. A few thing need to be addressed with my purchase; it has drum brakes up front, so I want to swap to discs one side of the Dana 44 has a broken inner and outer shaft due to a blown ujoint it needs radius arm pivot and C bushings the coil buckets have seen better days I have previously SAS'd a 2002 Nissan Xterra with a 1979 Bronco setup, so I already have some lessons learned. This time I'll make sure the coils are completely vertical, and I'll buy a Superlift adjustable track-bar instead of cutting and sleeving it to fit. Superlift Track Bar It should be a relatively simple swap since there's no IFS hardware to remove from the...
