WARNING: This swap will be longer than bmxking's  Thanks to tig for a real steal that I couldnt pass up ($50), it all started with a d44 from a 73' Bronco. This means its drum braked, coil sprung with LP housing complete hub to hub with r/a's. But, its matching width. :D Its in great shape as far as EB axles are concerned. It has 3.50's which upon inspection are in PERFECT condition. Not one chip on any of the ring gear teeth. Also the rust isnt too bad, its simply surface rust, nothing damaging. Also most of the bolts so far are coming off very well, only breaking a few. Not bad for 31 years of rust. So far in the plans are yukon 4.88's with full spool or lincon locker. Disk brake conversion VIA junkyard or...
I am going to be going through my 93 ranger and giving it a refresh. I bought the truck in late 2004. Other then a rancho lift kt it was an all stock stripped truck with a 4.0 manual trans and tcase. No AC cruise or power windows. The perfect basic wheeling rig. Here are the specs of how the truck currently sat before this refresh. 4.0V6 all stock Stock 5 speed d.d. machine duel case setup with manual 1350 front and 1354 rear. Front axle is a 1984 Jeep wagonner dana 44 converted to 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern 4.88 gears and an Aussie locker Three link front suspension using 8" skyjacker TJ springs. Rear axle is a 1992 explorer 8.8 4.88 gears and welded spider gears. 63" Chevy springs with a bellteck shackle. BroncoII tank...
Hey Guys! OK, I was trying to put off starting a thread like this until stuff got closer to done, but I have been asked so many questions in the middle of other threads, I thought I should. This is the plan: -SOA -HP YJ D30 SFA -35"s As a lot of you guys know, I had the oppurtunity to have the work done by an expert at one heck of a good price.:D The SOA and SFA are being done by Cory at CRL Customs So, as far as the really technical stuff, I will have no idea since I am not the person actually doing the work. OK, the first obvious question. "Why a D30?" I know most people instantly think of a D44 when they think of a SAS for an Explorer. The idea of a D30 hit me when I was planning on doing the project myself...
Alright so some of you know Ive been painting my truck the last week, and I was going to wait to show it off at T-haven...But I know you all can't wait and I'm to proud of my hard work:D So here are some pictures I took with my cell phone. Still have more to do, need to remount the front bumper, wetsand the whole truck and put on the JP logos when they get here.. The entire paint job was done using a $10 air sprayer from Harbor Freight and Rustoleum paint. The green I actually custom made, as no color was available like that.;) Here is the original...in case you forgot:p: (dead link)
this thread is going to be just a thread posting any mods or work being done on the Navajo. I'll also make a registry which would kinda like a summery of whats in the vehicle and i already have a thread started about the work im doing to the front beams/axle. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=206455 well here's whats up with it right now, its in mexico at McNeiloff-road to have a roll cage put in it :D here's just some randome shots of the shop. Chad McNeils shop Perry and Jason's shop this is a shot from the front gate around the buildings. on the right it is Chad McNeil's shop (McNeil Off-road) and towards the left is the building where Perry McNeil (McNeil Racing/Perrys fab n fiber)...
Ok, I'm going to start this thread since I'm hoping to be done with this by the end of September. Ok, those were the pretty pics...then I cracked the cover off the pumpkin- The thing had a ton of water inside...no gear oil came out, only water... Now the questions for all you axle Gurus... I can rebuild this no problem right? Are the axle tubes sealed from the pumpkin, or did the water travel down the tubes? I'd appreciate any opinions on this cause when the water came pouring out I got disgusted and put the cover back on...I'll have at it again tomorrow and start stripping it down. From what can be seen- any ideas on what would have to be changed right off the bat? Or am I looking...
94 4 Door SAS and More - CoryL My new winter project. I'm starting with a 94 4 Door with a 4.0. It had a D35 and 8.8" (obviously), A4LD, and a 1354. The only thing in there that is staying is the motor. The tranny is going to be a C5 followed up by a 4.3:1 Atlas 2. The suspension is going to change too. Out with the TTB and in with a solid axle. HP D60 front and a full floating D60 rear. Both have 5.13s and Detroits in them. I am going to see how much lift the stock leaf springs give me with a SOA setup. Up front will reside a 5 link setup with S-A-W coilovers. Going to hack most of the front fenders away, relocate anything on the inner fenders and remove the inner fenders. Going to hack quite a...
Some of you may know, and some may have suspected, but I'm starting a new project and it starts with a truck you all will recognize. I picked up R.J.'s Navajo today. She is a little tired and was facing being parted out, but now will start a new chapter, a very different chapter. I give you Plan B. (dead links) So let's start off as to why "Plan B"? Well, it has multiple meanings. It starts off as I really wanted a early Bronco. I first learned to drive on Zukmans '71 Bronco he had years ago. But myself owning a early Bronco was not going to happen. There just way to ridiculous priced these days. So this is My Plan B. JP is not going anywhere, I really just wanted to to do another build and JP is...well, JP!. It works, but it...
Boomin's getting a sex change *PICS* Haha guy well here we go. This weekend I will take the last pics of the truck lowered. I have decided that it is the best for me to lift my truck for 2 reasons. 1 is that it will slow me down some hopefully and 2 is that noone really has done what I am doing to a mountaineer. What my plans are: Suspention: -3'' lift spindles -3'' TT by flipping and rotating the adjuster w/stock bolts -SOA in rear possibly with shackles Body: -3'' body -3'' Fiberglass fenders Tires: -15x10 wheels -35x12.50 Mt's I will be posting pics of the progress. This monday/tuesday I am doing the TT and SOA with monoleafs.
Well, i'm going to go ahead and start a thread so i can get some information and some more ideas from everyone on here. I bought a Dana 30 off of a wrecked 95 XJ. Paid $200 pulled off the truck for me. Not to bad. Ordered 4.56 gears for the 8.8 and D30 from Randys Ring and Pinion for about $450. I just picked up a Powertrax Lockrite for the D30 last week. I'm trying to install that right now, but it's going to be a pain. I had the gears in the D30 installed last week for $150. I couldn't believe that price! Mom and my brother went in and got me some diff. rock guards for Christmas from Ronscustomshop.bigstep.com. He cut them a deal for buying 2 at a time. Here are a few pictures of what i've got so far. Please feel free to...
