Offroad Projects

Big projects... Lifts, Swaps, etc... IMPORTANT As the subject use your name, or the name of your truck, and the name of the project. Such as Superlift 5.5" installation, Dana 44 conversion, etc.

Solid Axle Swap Registry

If you have completed a solid axle swap on your Explorer and would like to share the results with others this is the place to do it:D This isn't the place to talk about a work in progress, rather a place for the FINAL results, specs, instructions etc

saw this explorer on dezert rangers, no one seems to know anything about it other than that the rear frame is notched and that it used to be black in color until it was rolled, it looks to be a 91-94 w/fiberglass conversion beam type setup in front but it could very well be a 98-00 with extensive work..thought someone might know something about it.
Hey........ I thought I would start a thread that lists the people on Explorer Forum that have V8's in their Explorers (or Rangers). This way people with model and year specific questions can better find people to ask questions or view their results. Try to keep your replies short, so it's easy to navigate through these pages. Information Should include: Year of Explorer, Year of V8 Engine, What kind of transmission, what type of EEC-IV of Carb system, Is it Emission legal, how to contact you with questions, your conversion website, whate state, anything related to v8 conv, etc, etc. This will be an interesting list! Well, I figured this would be a good single source to document my next project. I've just finished a 10 month race truck build and finally got it out of my garage and parked on the side yard so I can start my exploder next! So here's the info to make this whole project make a bit of sense... I picked up this explorer, it's considered a '91. The catch with it though is it's a mutt... It's actually 4 expos pieced together to build something that runs. List of things wrong with it, no cruise control, no heater, no a/c, turn signals don't work, power windows sorta kinda sometimes work, power locks sorta kinda sometimes work, missing a lot of the smog stuff and won't pass smog here in Nevada, doesn't run right, engine/trans/t-case...
i am working on a 2wd to 4wd conversion and my first thing is to get a manual tcase and rear driveshaft. i have been looking at the atlas2 with the 3.0:1 low range, i have been considering the manual borg warner that came as oem on the explorers, i know i could prolly get the BG from a junk yard but do any of yall know how much it would cost? and with the atlas2 where can they be obtained? and how much do they cost? are there any other tcases that are worth considering? i would like to spend as little money as possible but id also like to do it right the first time. just basically looking for "bang for the buck"
Right now I am running 33's on my 99 with the OHC V6. I am trying to decide between the 4.10's or 4.56's for new gears. What would ya'll recommend for me? I don't drive it every day so gas mileage isn't a huge concern. I just want it to have plenty of power off road and be able to easily keep up with traffic on the interstate. I was planning on getting a powertrax locker since they are so simple to install. If I am doing the gear work anyway, would another locker be better without costing much more?
I'm trying to determine what the axle shaft diameter is on my 2001 Sport Trac so that I can get the Powertrax no-slip for it. For this vehicle, they list two different parts for the open diff rear, one is for the 31 spline 3/4" and one for the 31 spline 7/8". Mine is 4x4 if that makes a difference in which diameter is used (why a 4x4 would come without at least a factory LS, I have no idea). I would imagine that it is the same as the regular X or at least the X Sport. What do y'all have in your trucks?
Does anyone know where I can get the new MileMarker hubs for the Explorer? My auto hubs are shot and I want to change them out and figured I would give the MileMarkers a try. I went to our local Auto Zone and they looked at me like I was an idiot and said they didn't carry them and never had. I explained they were listed on the stores web sight and even gave them a part number but they still said they couldn't help me. I went to 3 different stores and got the same thing every time. Thanks
