Offroad Projects

Big projects... Lifts, Swaps, etc... IMPORTANT As the subject use your name, or the name of your truck, and the name of the project. Such as Superlift 5.5" installation, Dana 44 conversion, etc.

Well I am thinking of swapping most of my Offroad stuff from my 95 XLT on to My 96 Limited. Has anyone ever wheeled a Explorer Limited? I don't care if it is the top of the line luxury Explorer. I took the Limited off road on the 4th, It accually did quite well. Only needs some more ground clearance. But If I do the swap I will put on my 32" Kumhos, Warrior Shackles and a TT. Good idea? Bad Idea? Thoughts??? Tim
Okay, so I have my X. It's my first car as I'm 16. I've done some work already. Nothing crazy just changing the radiator because it leaks, TT, and thats about it. I'm looking to completely transform it into a pre-runner. So could anyone give me at least a rough idea of whats been done to this truck. The picture is from the fiberwerx website. thanks in advanced, Ryan
Alright, I know the '77 is shorter, but what other differences are there? I think the '79 radius arms and brackets are recommended because they drop down further than the '77 brackets, but are the '78 brackets similar to the 77 or the 79? I've heard that the disk brakes on a '79 are larger and stronger than the '77 ones. Is that true? If so, how do the '78's compare? I'm asking because I can possibly get a '78 f-150 dana 44 for $100 bucks. Good front axle w/brackets, steering, the right gearing and everything. I'm just not sure why people say to use the '79 bronco stuff. If I get this stuff, I'll have the axle housing shortened to the '77 length. Please help! --Bob
This is what i have now traded for this what do you think and i got some ideas im gunna do to... Now this summer i will be putting a 5.5 inch lift and fit some nice 33's idk if im gunna switch it to a solid axle?( yes/no??) and im gunna take the axle of leaf out and switch around to leave over axle maybe put a snorkel in and everything will i need to change the gearing to make it have more power then i put the 5.5 on 33's on its got a 4.0 automatic its a little sluggish with the 31's but its got stock gearing any ideas to make it decent or anything else to make it a better wheeler/ dailey driver still.? thanks
is there an optimal width between the leaf springs when doing a 2nd gen SAS? All the write-ups I have seen show the rear mount of the front spring sitting just outside the center of the frame but not completely outside the frame if that makes any sense. Seems to me it would be easier if the spring was mounted directly under the frame or completely outside the frame. The axle we are using doesn't have any mounts on it yet so we can set the perches wherever we choose, just wondering if there would be a way to have a bolt-on hanger/shackle or something that wont require welding for the rear mount. The front mount we are making a crossmember that will be welded to the frame. Thanks for the help.
Ok - here's the dilemma... I just got a 351W. It has 160k on it and a rear main leak. Block and heads appear fine. My choices are - mild re-build and drop in Tramp or wicked re-build and drop in the mustang - then drop the 5.0 in Tramp. Project will take months to do as all money is going to the SAS now. But - 1 would give me a hell of a 4x4 and the other would give me a hell of a 4x4 and a screamin street car too. Choice A would be done quicker (about a year quicker) than choice B - what do you think? J
Hey all, I am in a quandry. I had a 91 explorer gave to me and i want to build a trail rig out of it. It has been sitting for ten years so it needs some (lot) of work. It has the 4.0 with a4ld trans and push button t-case. It ran fine when parked but do you think it would be worth getting running again. If I'm going to have to overhaul everything to make it reliable then I will go another route. That route is I also have a 77 f150 4x4 frame with a 390, c6 and 205 t-case. I'm thinking SAS no matter what. I even thought about dropping the ex on the f150 frame (shortened). I have a family of 4 so building a standard cab truck is out. I can fab and build no problem I just dont want to waste any time fixing exploder drivetrain...
