In response to my newbie post on the new members section, Brooklyn Bay recommended a 91-94 model as being the best for what I require. (Pre-used from Japan, shipped to Ethiopia for use on blacktop roads and rough ground). Safety in height from all the numpty drivers on the roads over there. If I get one of these years vehicles what should be the first mod that I should carry out on it. Or any other mod in that case! Thanks ubdai
I am still looking into doing a solid axle swap for my X. I am reading a lot of material, but I had a question. Should I use the full-size D44 from a '78-'79 Bronco, or one that I probably don't have to cut down at all, with the '76-'77? I don't have the tools, or knowledge, for cutting an axle down to fit so I would have to have someone else do it. $$$$ But I just want to know for sure if the D44 from the earlier models would really fit my X without cutting or anything. What do you think would be best?
Since this is going to be my DD for quite a while still, what should i do to improve the off road abilities of it while still keeping it reasonable to drive to work everyday? I am planning on a BL and some 33s when the weather is a little nicer, what else could i do? The rear is already locked, and a selectable for the front is big $$. I was thinking sliders and bumpers, what do you guys think? Posted via Mobile Device
Hey guys I dont have an explorer yet but my parents do. I dont know what year or what kind it is. I'll try to find out. I know it's an automatic though. It runs pretty crappy, I need to know what kind of engine is good. I dont need a super good engine because I wont be doing any extreme off-roading. I just want to know what will run nicely and is also good for that off road shtuffs. I dont know anything about SUV's by the way... I'm for sure that it is a 91-94 generation explorer. Also, please list a price range, minimum-maximum price range on the engine. Do any of you know good places where I can learn absolutely everything about explorers and SUV's in general? Oh yeah, are all Explorers 4x4? see. i dont know jack. lol. please...
I am gathering parts and equipment for my 5.0 swap. I purchased a 1986 5.0 with and AXOD tranny from a Lincoln Towncar. I will be replacing the 4.O and A4LD in my 1991 4 door explorer. What is an AXOD? The guy said it is a 4 speed electronic shift tranny. Is this going to be a problem? Does the explorer have and electronically shifted tranny? I also have the manual transfer case. I think it is a 1354 BW? Is that correct? Does Advance Adapters make a kit to bolt this transfer case to my AXOD tranny? My engine comes complete with all accessories, computer and wiring harness. Is the accessories package on the Lincoln town car a good one for this swap?
I currently drive a 2wd '95 Explorer XLT with 6" of suspension lift and 33x12.50-15 on 15x8 rockcrawlers. I can barely make it through the trails around in my area. Most of it are very hilly narrow trails through the woods about 1 mile from a lake. The terrain is hard clay and some sand with small/medium rocks and roots with 10-20' mud pits 1-3' deep and TONS of ruts. I usually have to be winched up some steep hills here and there and some times I get stuck in the large pits if it has been raining bad. I really don't get stuck much but I'm tired of it. I have finally decided to convert to 4wd as I need it and i wanna get through the stuff I do now with ease and start doing slightly tougher stuff. I was looking at the process...
