Ok.... what's the deals here. I replace my fog light bulbs about once every 2 weeks, and now I've just given up. About every 2 weeks one of em just blows up. Is this common or am I just screwed? I thought maybe water was getting in there and the change in temp was blowing them, so I tried to caulk up the seal where the lens meets the plastice housing, and that didn't work... any other ideas? It almost looks like the bulb is slamming into the lens and blowing it up. If no one has any ideas I'm gonna go to walmart and buy some whole new fog lights.
I know some folks out there have cheaper 899s in the fog lights of 95-98 Explorers. What brands do you guys use, and what is close to a PIAA 9007. I am doing the foglight conversion (so they can run with parking lights in addition to low beams) and want a nice superwhite look to match the headlamps. Thanks guys.
Hey guys. Any of you that run Pro Comp lights probably know about how bad their powder coating is. I have run the 6" lights for years, with some bed liner on the housing they have held up great. I added 4 8" lights on my roof, and for some reason didnt have the forethought to bedliner them before installing. Consequently I will be pulling the light bar down, stripping them and bedlinering them. I figured while I was at it it would be cool to add some LEDs to the housings so they would be able to be lit up, without having the 130w bulbs lit. Need some advice on what/how many LEDs to run and where to purchase them. Thanks for any insight you guys might have!!
ok, my first how to... Everyone said it couldn't be done, but I thought I would give it a shot. Try this at your own risk. Start off by removing the driver door pannel. 1. Remove 2 Phillips screws above door release handle 2. Pry out door release trim 3. Using a panel tool (or a flat screwdriver) pry around the bottom and sides of the door panel 4. Slide panel upward to remove. Once the pannel is removed you will see this... the back of keypad. It still attached to the driver door. There is a clip on the right side. Remove the clip the speaker needs to be removed to gain access to the other end of the keypad. You need to disconnect the green plug. the keypad, and the attached wires. The first piece of wire...
I've done a search looking for info I need but couldn't find what I'm looking for. Now onto what I'm looking for: I have clear corners installed on my '93..... now since the stock ones were clear and to stay street legal, the turn signal and parking lamp[3157 & 194] must light up an amber color. The thing is though, when they aren't lit up during the day, I get that hideous gold/brown color from the corners. Now I've heard that bulbs are available that are a silver/gray color when 'dormant' and then when lit up, they turn amber. Anybody heard of these or use 'em? Anybody know where I could get some if they do exist? Thanks.
I was surfing a bit today and came across a new headlight system from Catz: http://www.fet-usa.com/products/zeta.html It's called the zeta system and apparently it splices into the stock wiring and adds a ballast to each side. Claims are a 170% improvement in lighting. So far I've found a kit for $170. That's not bad for a decent lighting upgrade. Add some bluer bulbs and it might really work. They don't have a specific kit yet for the X due to the X having 9007s and mini-blade fuses. But I looked at the instructions and all you have to do is splice into the hot wire to the bulb. It says professional install may be required, but honestly it would take about a half hour to throw in, and a few short hours to get everything...
Both of my stock fog lights on my explorer have been giving me problems and I am dang near close to just cutting them off! Is it Legal to replace the stock fog lights with High performance off-road lights? If I were to use them only when I was off-road and not on the highway? Is it a good idea to do that? Like would having the offroad lights where the fog lights are supposed to be benefit me driving in harsh conditions? has anyone done this before? (im pretty sure lol) thanks for any advice
Well....I developed a short in my passenger foglight and I recently bought Silverstar bulbs for my headlights and I didnt like how the foglights looked, they didn't match. So I went to WalMart and bought some 19.99 Pro Burners (QH-75IT). While installing them one fell and broke the glass, just to make my day better. So....I took the stock fogs apart, and the new ones apart and swapped the bulbs. After resealing the housing and swaping the rubber object that was leaking, they actually match my headlights 99.99%. I am impressed.
my friend knows somebody that is selling their Acura factory HID headlights. he is selling them for a tempting $250. i don't know much more detail, but I know its some kind of fairly new '00 or higher Acura (I might recall Integra). $250 for HID sounds extremely tempting but another friend of mine that knows a lot about the lighting. he says that they will not fit, but i could obviously custom fit them in the lamp housing, but without projectors, especially the open frosted light housing on explorers, that the light would be extremely bright and would be undirected and just shining evertywhere. is it worth it to try to make these fit, or even better yet, fit them in my factory fog lights? another thing, ive been looking for a...
My fiance got me some REALLY bright 100w/130w xenons for Christmas  . Now I love the way they look, but I also like my headlight cover look. But obviously...when i put on the covers....the lights are really dim. Anybody have any other ideas. Don't they make some headlight covers that are dark and have a clear circle in front of the bulb??? If so....where can i get some?
Hey there everyone! I've been wanting to post about these HID lights i picked up about a week ago, but I figured I'd give em a bit of a trial run before I might end up having to post a "never mind, these are P.O.S. waste of $", but after a mind numbingly SIMPLE plug n play install, and having them be up front taking the first hits :D and fearlessly lighting the way for my offroad adventuring that has my poor '02 looking like a badly abused war wagon, rather than the DD that it so badly wants to continue as, I would have to say that I think I've finally gotten a quality product at a smokin price. I stumbled on a posting on my local CL for "HID $50", so, naturally i clicked on it. I ended up talking to a guy in Coeur d'Alene, Id., who...
I just got my 2000 Sport X, and i have a few ?'s about them in regards to their lighting. from what year to what year do the 2000's match (ie 1995-1999?) Can lights that say they are for a 4 door match the sports, and if so, for which years? I guess that is all for now. Thank you for you help. I am learning as much as I can about them, so some day i can know half as much as all of you do.:) Thanks
