Performance Lighting

Aftermarket lighting. Driving lights, fog lights, rock lights, HID, halogen. Make your Ford Explorer light up the night!!
OK, so I recently went out and bought 4 driving lights (nothing special, just wal mart stuff till I can buy the REALLY good stuff) for my newely installed safari rack, anyways.. I have absolutely no idea how to go about hooking them up, I have the on/off switch and pos/neg wiring.. I guess I probably shouldent hook up the wiring from all four of the lights to the battery... could someone give me some pointers? I know I'm sounding borderline retarded right now, but hell, I dont wanna blow anything haha any suggestions would be helpful, I've done some searing around the net and forums, but I couldent really seem to find anything.. But yah, let me know if you could point me in the right direction! thanks guys!
Who here runs HID headlights???? (PIC'S & VIDEO ADDED) I recently bought an HID kit from DDM Tuning and I am not sure what I got myself into. I purchased the 9007 (low beam only) 55w slim digital 8000K kit. Anyone else run this exact kit? Will I need a relay harness? Is heat going to be an issue? Anyone have any pics? Will they look like poo in my stock assemblies, and if so what housings work better? Opinions, concerns, tips, tricks, do's and do not's, preference of 35w vs 55w or vice versa, color preferences, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO GIVE SOME INPUT / FEEDBACK........ Thanks
Due to the consummate cluster f**** in attempting to get diamond corners from another supplier on a group buy, I decided to simply order them from an E Bay seller ( assembleweb http://feedback.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=assembleweb ). This transaction was flawless and simple. The seller provided immediate Fed Ex tracking data. I highly recommend this seller. The packaging of the corners was outstanding. The cost was $58.95 to my door. I was pleasantly surprised to find these clear corners to be as nice ( quality wise ) as OEM and much better looking, The installation is a extremely simple 2 screw ( per corner housing ) removal and disconnection of three light plugs. Replacement is just the reverse...
I was out last night riding my bike around town with a couple guys I know from school, and I saw this suburban with it's right turn signals on, it was like the X with two bulbs for each blinker, and they alternated, first the top one, then the side one. Within 5 minutes on the same road at the next stop light, I saw a little honda (not riced out believe it or not) with the same set up. My question is, is it possible to do this to my X? To have the inside bulb flash first, then the side one?
This is part 2 to the Under Dash lighting mod I did several months ago. It took some thinking but I figured out how to do and LED setup under the rear seats and still have the seats fold up and down. What you will need: 1/16 3/4x48 piece of aluminum angle ( Home Depot ) 6 5mm Blue 13000mcd LEDs (grind the tips flat) 6 Resistors 470 ohm (the actual resistance was 463ohm) Double sided tape light gauge wire The Stock First cut a piece for the single seat to 12" and a piece for the double seat to 25.5" For the single seat I drilled 2 5mm holes about .5" from each side of seat supports. And put an LED in each hole. For the double seat I also drilled 2 holes roughly .5" from each support, then found center, and then found half of...
I got in a buddy's explorer and it was at night and when we opened the doors the lights came on (he has blue interior dome lighting) and when we shut the doors the lights waited approx. 3 sec and thenn slowly dimmed as though we were in a theatre. It was the coolest thing!! I asked him how he did that and he didnt know. He said it came like that when he bought it. Does anyone here know how something like that can be done?? I would love to do that to mine!!
Firstly, thanks for the wealth of info here! Much better than a lot of other sites! That being said, I thought I'd contribute with my latest project (and first post, I hope it helps): converting the dome/map lights to LED. Simply put, I wanted the interior lighting to be more white and clean. Because of my newfound fetish with LED lighting, I bought a bulk pack white of LEDs off ebay (50 LEDs with 50 resistors for use with 12V systems). I bought the 'breadboard' from radioshack. This is just the beginning ... I plan on adding more LEDs in other practical places. I'm very pleased with the light output. I will say that the LEDs have an ever-so-slight tint of blue, but much much whiter than the stock bulbs. Pics ... BTW, the...
So since I am a fashion ***** I want to get rid of the crystal clear corners and headlights I just got a couple months back for my 96 Sploder......I love them, but now since they have the black ones out I want to swtch to those. My question is, it seems to me since there are no refelctors in these lights anymore they must be converted to projector/HID in order to work? They appear to come ready to fit the standard H type bulb in. Does the black chrome reflect light? or is that chrome actually chrome? I assume the other version available with an all flat black interior finish, no reflector is projector conversion only? They are listed as being "DOT stamped" Thoughts? I think they will look killer
I know this is a very abused topic. But I'm not in the position that I really want to get these. I don't have an extreme amount of money right now, but I would like to get them. I found this from ebay: Click Here. I would like opinions on these. I know there are better kits. I would also make a kit to pull power from the battery instead of the stock headlight wiring. I don't like the idea of it drawing from those wires. If you know of any other cheaper kits and would like to share, please do.
How to increase the headlight brightness on a Generation-1 Explorer: My Gen-1 1994 explorer uses 9004 halogen bulbs, which only put out around 700 lumens. I converted it to use 9007 halogen bulbs which puts out around 1000 lumens. A bulb swap from the OEM 9004's to the much brighter 9007's has been discussed in various forums (including here in 2001) and thought I'd write up a more detailed how-to guide. And determine whether one needs to upgrade the entire wiring harness or not. Plus see if the resulting beam pattern is okay with the stock reflectors. Instructions: 1. Buy: - New 9007 halogen bulbs. ( I used Silvania 9007XV bulbs. About $20/pair at Autozone. ) - 9004 or 9007 wiring harness. This three wire cable...
Just reserved my Explorer Altezzas for my 00. They're coming in stock on December 14th at http://www.autosyndicate.com for $199.95 thought I'd let ya'll know seeing as a few here were interested. No word yet on any model years outside of 98-00, but the fact that they've recognized the Explorer segment of the market can compete with the likes of the Cavalier and Mirage is a good start (SHEESH!). -Sean
