Performance Lighting

Aftermarket lighting. Driving lights, fog lights, rock lights, HID, halogen. Make your Ford Explorer light up the night!!
...It was time to update my stock headlights...I had recently purchased a brand new set of Diamond cut headlights with clear corners and blinkers...By the time I replaced my old lights today, they were so fogged and one was holding moisture...:( ...So on to the task of swapping out these old lights...:hammer: ...Tools Needed.. 6 way screwdriver (or phillips head, a 5/16 nut driver, and a 1/4" nut driver) 7/16 socket ______________________________________________________________________________ ...First, remove your grill...It's pretty simple...There are I believe 2 fender screws you need to access thru the grill, and a couple on top...After you remove your grill, pic a side to start on... ...Let's start with the drivers side...:D...
Thought I share my install currently underway. I am going slow and not rushing this as I want to get it right the first time. Started with the Morimoto Mini H1 4.1 Bi-xenon Projectors and graphite shrouds from http://www.theretrofitsource.com/ and the Black Crystal Headlights from ebay. I didn't realize how transparent the shrouds are so I painted the insides with aluminum engine paint to fix that. I am also installing the dummy alarm LED's in them to flash when the truck is off. I used one of the existing holes in the base of the projector's and angle drilled it to fit the LED. Here you can see the hole. And with LED. I attached the LED's with the same Silicone II that is recommended to install the projectors...
I bought a Hanma 180W LED light bar a few weeks ago from Trailworthyfab.com. It's a 30" bar so it should be very bright. I decided to mount it behind the lower grille since it would fit perfectly there and also get some protection from flying gravel and things. Today I pulled off the front bumper cover and mounted the light bar to the bumper reinforcement: Then I replaced the bumper cover. With it in place, you can hardly tell the bar is there and the beam should even clear the front license plate holder: Just need to wire it up now and I'll post some beamshots tomorrow night probably.
OK, so I recently went out and bought 4 driving lights (nothing special, just wal mart stuff till I can buy the REALLY good stuff) for my newely installed safari rack, anyways.. I have absolutely no idea how to go about hooking them up, I have the on/off switch and pos/neg wiring.. I guess I probably shouldent hook up the wiring from all four of the lights to the battery... could someone give me some pointers? I know I'm sounding borderline retarded right now, but hell, I dont wanna blow anything haha any suggestions would be helpful, I've done some searing around the net and forums, but I couldent really seem to find anything.. But yah, let me know if you could point me in the right direction! thanks guys!
because i did this to my truck over a year ago, i figured i would finally make a write up on how i did it. with the help from Ryan (aka MustangP51) write ups on how to convert you dome light to LED http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2031734#post2031734 Cruise Control button LED http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=214264 Headlight/Wiper/Defrost/Fog LED http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=199305 as well as John Griggs’s Ford Ranger LED write ups http://www.cardomain.com/ride/296394 i figured i have some time to kill, and would do one of my own first off, these are from a 98 Sport. the switches are the same as a 4 door, except the drivers master control switch, but it...
I have never been thrilled with the headlights on my ’99. The factory stock lights were basically insufficient so I upgraded to SilverStar 9007 bulbs and that move made a positive contribution, albeit, still not to my liking. My next upgrade progression was to install diamond clear lenses; this in combination with SilverStar bulbs further enhanced the light output. Still unpleased and searching for more light, I added a Brite Box (http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=156148&highlight=brite+box ); better but still not what I want. Yet, I was still left out in the dark so to say. The reason I have procrastinated in adding the lighting power of HIDs was twofold; (1) my ignorance of the intricacies of HID lighting and...
Hard to fathom since the 2nd generation effectively ended about 8 years ago. There didn't seem to be much in the way of new aftermarket offerings, but since 410 Fortune did up his aftermarket projector setup a few weeks ago, there is now another rendition. To boot, a new EF Vendor is offering a pretty good Group Buy on them. Hey mods, sorry for the cross post, but I thought this was a logical place to link the buy too. Selfish motivations too because I'm on the Buy list now and the Buy needs at least 10 people. I'm surprised there seems to be so little interest so far. They've got a lot of potential if you can get by the LED halos and LED corner lights (not my cup of tea).
This is part 2 to the Under Dash lighting mod I did several months ago. It took some thinking but I figured out how to do and LED setup under the rear seats and still have the seats fold up and down. What you will need: 1/16 3/4x48 piece of aluminum angle ( Home Depot ) 6 5mm Blue 13000mcd LEDs (grind the tips flat) 6 Resistors 470 ohm (the actual resistance was 463ohm) Double sided tape light gauge wire The Stock First cut a piece for the single seat to 12" and a piece for the double seat to 25.5" For the single seat I drilled 2 5mm holes about .5" from each side of seat supports. And put an LED in each hole. For the double seat I also drilled 2 holes roughly .5" from each support, then found center, and then found half of...
Firstly, thanks for the wealth of info here! Much better than a lot of other sites! That being said, I thought I'd contribute with my latest project (and first post, I hope it helps): converting the dome/map lights to LED. Simply put, I wanted the interior lighting to be more white and clean. Because of my newfound fetish with LED lighting, I bought a bulk pack white of LEDs off ebay (50 LEDs with 50 resistors for use with 12V systems). I bought the 'breadboard' from radioshack. This is just the beginning ... I plan on adding more LEDs in other practical places. I'm very pleased with the light output. I will say that the LEDs have an ever-so-slight tint of blue, but much much whiter than the stock bulbs. Pics ... BTW, the...
Hi people, my lights stay on a bit longer than they used to and I am pretty sure that they are draining my battery to the point of replacement now. I replaced the starter anyways, even though it didn't fix the problem. The slow start only occurs after I shut it off in low-light conditions. The automatic setting and timer after shut off is something I would like to remove completely. Anyone know how to do this? Very much appreciated.
I recently noticed that the F-150 Raptors have 3 amber marker or ID lights at the top center of the grill. I thought it looked pretty cool, and found out that it's actually required by law since the vehicle is wider than 80 inches. Anyway, I thought I'd look into doing something similar for my truck. Seems a lot of the regular F-150 guys have been doing this also, so after reading about the lights they used, I decided to buy 4 of these and give it a try: http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/led-accent-lighting/bolt-beam-10mm-led-light/56/ They're already wired up you just need to hook them up to power. Better yet, they fit perfectly inside the openings in my mesh grille, just need to put some little brackets back there to...
