Help, I am trying to wire my 4 neons to a switch. I have run a red positive wire from the battery through the firewall then connected to the switch. I then ran a ground from the switch and grounded it. Finally I ran the positve wire from the neons to the ACC spot on the switch, but it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?
I recently purchased a bezel with a fog lamp switch so I could use this swith for my PIAA. I looked up the color and wire codes and chiltons and hooked it up like I should have(I think). Red to light blue and black, Black to black, and white to tan and orange. The problem that I am having is the fuse keeps on blowing on the circut that I have tapped my switch power from. I hooked up the PIAA switch once again everything works fine as before. Can the stock switch be used? Why does it draw so many amps, a switch is a switch right. If this can't be done any suggestions? Thanks Jeff
I have 2 55w lights on my truck(aftermarket), made my own wiring. It is a on/off switch that is not illuminated. The switch is mounted on a metal rod under the dash. 1. Does this switch need to be grounded also? 2. Is there supposed to be a wire from the battery to the switch? I didnt put a relay on it but thinking I should. Let me know experts.....counting on you...:)
i need to know which wire or wires control the parking/sidemarker lights. i want to have them bright all the time and just flash when i turn the blinker or emergency light on. right now a stock 98 explorer will have a dim light on the blinker lenses that turns on with the headlights. this light just gets brighter when you turn a blinker on. when the headlight is off the blinker light gets just as bright as the blinker light with the headlights on. ok if your not lost yet i will continue. i have a chilton manual but i dont know enough about wiring to be able to read it to find out what i need to know. so can someone take a look at the wiring diagram and tell me what i need to do to make my blinkler lights their brightest all the...
Hello all- I have a question concerning the wiring in my 03 sport. I would like to know if there is a way I can wire up a fuse box that becomes active only when my ignition is in the accessory position, or running position. I would like to run this box off of a solonoid, so that I can carry a fairly strong positive current into the truck, and run all my accessories off of one fuse box. The 08 superduties have a similar setup factory wired in, 4 heavy duty accessory switches that can be wired to lights etc. I would also like to know, is there a heavy enough guage positive wire coming in from the battery that could be tapped into to power the fuse box so that I would not have to put any wires through the firewall? Ideally I would like to...
Hey guys, last night the headlight switch in my 91 starting acting up. Depending on how I played with it I could either get parking lights or headlights and no parking lights. I went out a bought a new switch and just put it in. What I noticed was that one of the terminals on the old switch was burnt and the connector in the harness was also semi-burnt and the plastic was melted. The insulator on the wire was also discolored. After replacing the switch all still works. My question is could this have been caused by a faulty switch? or the way I have my off road lights wired up? My off road lights are not high power, just simple 55W x 2. I have the power for them tapped into the parking lights so that they can be turned on...
i am planning on running fog lights, front strobes, rear strobes, ground effects kit, inside lights, and overhead monitor. (possibly more) I am wanting to run each one of the off seperate switches so i can turn each one on seperatly. Does anyone know how i would go about wiring this up (i have an idea but i'm sure it won't work) i would like to have it where i would have to flip a switch to supply power to the other switches that have the lights on them. But again i have no idea how to wire this up. Also i am pretty sure i would have to upgrade my battery and/or alternator to supply enough power to all this. Could anyone recommend and good battery and/or alternator upgrade.
Question for you guys. Here goes. My old stock fogs in the lower valence are LONG gone. I have two aftermarket fog lights on my rig in the license plate hole - they used to be on either side of the plate that I no longer have because I live in PA now. Additionally, they never did much anyway. So, I've decided to remove them and add 3 KC 26 series driving lights across the whole plate hole as running lights to supplement my headlights. Now here's the wiring stuff - bear with me, I'm not the best at this. The two aftermarket fogs are wired directly to the old stock fog lights wiring - that is, power and ground connected right to the old power and ground stock wires via bullet connectors. I intend to wire the KCs up the same way...
yesterday, i started installing some driving lights on my 1998 explorer sport. after attaching the lights to the truck, i started the wiring :( i have installed some fog lights on my x before, so i htought this was going to be easy. the first step was to find the high beam wire and connect it to the switch. since i did not have a tester on hand, i went to my haynes manual. where i thought i found the wire (gray/orange). so i searched for it and searched, after i removed the panel under the steering panel, as well as the metal panel behind it, i found a gray and orange wire coming from the steering wheel. i spliced into this wire and connected it to the switch. second step was to mount the relay by the battery...
I am thinking of putting four 55 watt off-road lights on a light bar on my 94 XLT. I have seen many threads on wiring but am still confused. I am new to wiring things. My question is once I get the wires run down and under the hood, what do I do? Do I run them to the battery or thru something else first? I want these lights to be on thier own switch and seperate from the head lights and parking lights. (Can I even run four lights to one switch?) Is this something I need a relay for. I have also seen these mentioned quite a few times but am not sure when or where to use them. All help is appreciated greatly. If anyone has pics that would be awesome.:D
