Tires & Wheels

This is kind of a safety issue that I've noticied a few companies are having. My brother bought some Eagle Alloys for his Ranger and had them installed at the shop I work at (I didn't work on it thankfully). Anyhow, few months pass and he was coming home from college and his right rear wheel almost fell off. The lugs somehow backed off. Now - there's no hard evidence that it was because of the wheels needing to be retorqued - but what makes it harder is that he was up at Virgina Tech the day before with a damn UVA sticker in his back window. Pranksters - maybe? Anyhow, so he bought a new wheel and he was good to go. Months later I had to go to a 4wd shop and get some lug nuts and I noticed at the bottom a disclaimer: So...
...This is a compilation of info and links I have found very useful on this site, including items I have learned over the years...Just my favorite links to the noted subject's...:D ...The wheel size does not make the tire rub...The tire and backspacing cause/eliminate this...;) ...The preferred size wheel for the Explorer and Ranger is, 15"x8" 5-4.5 with 3.75 Backspacing...You can fit up to a 12.50" wide tire on this wheel.. ...If you look at the tire size and lift charts here, they will give you the correct amount of lift needed for minimal, to no rubbing with the stock size wheels,(15"-16" tall)...A 15x10 wheel basically will give you a deeper dished wheel and usually, the back spacing size they come with will cause the...
Alright so this is my first post so be gentle please. I have a 97 xlt 4door and i want to put new rims on it. These are what im looking at, they are 18x9 with the 5x4.5 bolt pattern and a +24 or +30mm offset (what does this mean?), im just wondering if they will clear and if so what tire dimensions am i going to need to put on them? I am a tire newbie and a aftermarket newbie, im worried about the offset and backspacing aswell even though i have no idea on those, any help is appreciated!
Hey guys, Awhile back there was a thread that showed a chart of a bunch of tire manufacturers and their different "house" or "offbrand" makes. I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone remember it or know where I can find the info? Someone mentioned to me a tire called a "Regal Trailblazer" and supposedly Regal is made by BFG. Anyone heard of them? Robb
well i just got my 01 sport and its pretty much stock. Im not sure what all i can put on it if anything , before this i drove a mitsubishi galant and it was the worst. So i was wondering if anybody knew what kind of tires i could put on and what kind of lift i could do. i want to put bfgoodrich all terrains, preferably the mudd all terrains, iwant the biggest and widdest size that will fit my rim, any suggestions? just for details this not a "sport trac" but an "explorer sport"
i have a '98 explorer, stock height and everything...it comes with 15's and those skinny tires (that just drive me nuts.....). so i was looking at a 01 sport today and saw that they came with 16's and some healthy looking michelins....(mine are firestones...can't even say the word...). i was wondering if the '01's were in fact wider, and what size the wheels were.....oh yeah, im looking at the twisted 5 stars....they look good....if they are wider and bigger i might pick up a set along with the '01 xlt front bumper to add some flair...... anyone got specs......? thanks in advance z+
I have a '01 sport trac 2wd and just got back from a weekend in ocala....very satisfied with the overall performance on the trails but I want to add a few prerunner-style mods to make life a little easier out there. So far I have found nothing for the sport trac. I am looking to fit bigger tires and perhaps something to give it a little lift. Does anyone know how I can achieve this? If not, what size tires can I fit on it now and what off-road shocks are recommended for trail running? Thanks...wes.
Well, as you all know, I've been waiting for these wheels for a while, and finally picked them up today. I went straight to Goodyear to have some 275-55-17 tires put on them so I could take pictures of it later today. The back fit fine, but the front was a total disaster. The tire rubbed against the upper a-arm joint really bad, and the hub was slightly too large for the wheel to fit over completely. So I had them take the tires back off, and put the stock wheels back on again. Now I guess I'm going to sell these to somebody with a Mustang or somebody that wants to run spacers. BUT, THE STORY GETS EVEN BETTER, While my truck was on the lift, the air hose used for the air tools broke loose and went flying everywhere, and my...
