So wife planned a trip for the family (wife, me, and 4 kids) to Loveland Ski area in Colorado, driving from Alabama (good long road trip). We will be staying in the Georgetown area (around 40 miles west of Denver right off I-70). We will be there in the week of Feb 20th. We got 2 choices of vehicles: 2015 FWD Toyota Sienna 2013 FWD Ford Explorer w/ 255/50/R20 Michelin Primacy Tour A/S Leaning toward using the Explorer. My issue: Colorado has a Traction / Chain law in the area west of Denver. And I was looking at chains, but I'm seeing that the manual for these vehicles says no chains for ones that have the 20" wheels. I'm assuming it's a clearance issue. So what are my choices? Does anyone have a similar vehicle (20" wheels and...
Needing some assistance guys. So here's the problem.... Vehicle: 2005 Explorer Eddie Bauer V6 Over 300000 miles maintained pretty consistently So 2 days ago, thanks to bald ass tires I got caught in the snow. Had a company come out to winch me out. Now a couple times along the way of pulling me out to the freeway he had to jerk it kinda hard to get me free after getting restuck a few times along the way. Now that I'm out the following is going on. First off... Had it in 4 low the whole time. Current Issues: 1. ABS light always on 2. 4X High keeps coming on 3. AdvanceTrak stays off 4. Jerky when accelerating 5. Rough/grinding feeling/noise My background with vehicles is I'm not a mechanic but I know my way around under the...
started discussing in the thread with @DintDobbs im inclined to believe MS is to distinguish bias ply radial primarily, and there is no real test, etc going into it, like 3pmsf. i think its at this point just a granted all ties (ok except bias, but theyre so uncommon) are MS at this point, and MS has no major/noteworthy distinction. also pretty sure its up to the mfg to put the MS on it, just like with classifying tires (such as MT, AT, HT, AS, XT) as such, im claiming that its inaccurate to call an MS tire (that doesn't tposess a 3pmsf or have mud tire classification) as a good tire in mud or snow. ive heard MS tires called snow tires before when people ask me about them, they say "i have snow tires on it now" dude youre running the...
Have an 09 ex with the 20" adrenaline wheels. Looking for recommendations on a quite smooth tire brand and model higher end brand. Truck came with 3 goodyear eagles with 30% tread left and 1 new continental. Never owned a vehicle with semi low profile wheels such as these. Always ran all terrains or mud terrains. I do tow with this rig so I guess no car or crossover tires.
I'm looking to put a set of BFG KO2s on my 2013 Explorer XLT. I have the stock 245/60R18s on there now. The shop is saying go with the 255/55R18, but the one thread I found ( http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=431021 ) has a cryptic comment. "as tough as some of these 105 load rated tires are I'd worry more about aspect ratio than I would plys. as in - anything lower than say the 60 ratio (assuming stock 18's) then I would worry about punctures as the side wall stiffness wouldn't allow the tire to deform nearly as much." Does any on have KO2s on the Gen 5? If so what size? Are the 55s too wide? Can anyone clarify why not go go less than a 60? Thanks, stefan
Hello everyone: So I'm doing research on new tires, and I've compared most of them but some were to close to tell what was better. So everyone says CrossClimate 2s are the best, but another said Primacy A/S were better. I generic tire comparison site showed Bridgeston Blizzak DM-V2s as the best. Anybody had experience with these tires or has any input? I need more snow capability since we receuve 32 inches of snow a year but still need dry performance also. Thanks!
Hi all I had to change my User ID as I lost my account over at hotmail. Some of you may remember me from my mountaineer restoration thread. Hi all! Question. I'm looking to run a set of 15x10's. My current wheels are gen 1 explorer wheels 15x7's 4.5 backspacing 12mm offset all round. My truck is lowered, about 4 inches in the rear, maybe 4 and 1/2 in the front. I know a lot of guys are running 15x10's with offroad setups (lifted, offroad tires, etc.) But what about the street guys? The Backspacing on offroad explorers/mountaineers is way too aggressive for a lowered expo/mounty. I've searched this forum and google for about the past week or so with no info. I took some measurements and it seems if I...
I did a search for retread and got lots of threads, but most of them were 10 years old at least, and none seemed to address my question. So I'm considering retreads, and I'm looking at TreadWright and Tirerecappers (if there's another, let me know). In the description for each tire, Tire Recappers lists a "minimum of 65 psi". I have a 1 ton truck with a pressure listing of 80 psi for the rear, presumably because of the weight, but only 40 for the front. To say I should run at least 65 psi on a mid size SUV with a fraction of the load my truck could carry seems odd to me. So I sent them an email a couple weeks ago to ask if they could clarify and I never got a response, which is not a good sign, and suggests to me that I...
I drive a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport and I was wondering what the most aggressive look I could obtain was. I wanted to go with black rims and tires with a tough look to them, this would strictly be for visual effect and no off-road driving. I think I will also be doing a 2-inch TT with rear shackles and a 2-inch body lift. I live in Mass so the legal lift limit is 2-inch, but I can get away with the TT and shackles. I would like some suggestions please, hopefully with pictures, I am a very visual person.
