Both my left side tires are flat due to an unfortunate event of some random junkie slashing the tires in a parking lot. So I have my 2 new tires and I'm ready to put my truck on jacks and take the 2 wheels to the shop. I do it this way because I have aftermarket wheels and lug nuts so I prefer to do it myself with my tools. The tires I have (falken wildpeak at3w) are pretty new, I forgot where I wrote down the mileage I installed them at but its less than 8,000 miles ago, maybe even less than 5000 miles. Im wondering if I should just slap on the 2 new left side tires and be done, or should I consider taking off all 4 wheels so I can rotate them to where the 2 new tires are in front? I know radial tires aren't supposed to be moved to...
Hi, been thinking of getting some kind of beam to lift one side at the time, instead of front/back as access point are quite far. Never manage to get it done... But this year, had a 4x4 wooden beam from my deck, fitting perfectly between mudflap... Centered the 5' 4x4 on jack and using 2 hockey puck under the jack point, lifted the entire side. Placed jack post and release the jack! The pucks had slot to accommodate the sheet metal. Did one side in a breeze, even my wife got surprise how quick I swap mine and hers! Note: after 3 lift, the 4th seems trickier!?!? I had issue maintaining the beam stability, when pressure started it wanted to twist and potentially roll off, probably the alignment. After tweaking and making sure all...
As the title says, I have a third gen Ex, but was wanting to know if there are newer OEM wheels that are direct fitments for the 3rd gen Exs. Example being specific years of the Ford Edge, Flex, or even newer 5th gen Exs? I know there are some mustang wheels that are direct swap, and probably 4th gen Exs. I am looking for 18' through 20' wheels for my Ex. With funds being limited, I was wanting to know which years/models to keep an eye out for, either at junkyards, or my local tire shop which the owner would be willing to let me know if any come through his shop for wheel upgrades. Thanks in advance, Jim.
Is anyone running 32s on 3.73 gears? I have a 96 Explorer with the V6 and 4r55e transmission. I know I'd be fine running the 30 ones but I want to know if it's worth trying to push for 32s. I plan on doing an add a leaf and torsion twist for a lift, I know the transmission is kind of wimpy and it all has a hundred eighty-one thousand miles but some people say it's good and some people say it's not. I'm not really crazy about doing some trimming but I plan on owning the truck till it dies so I might as well. I'd bu using Pro Comp 15x8 steelies as well. It's my daily driver and mostly highway, but occasionally off road and beach driving.
The tires have around 27,000 miles on them. I hit a curb and cut the side wall of the front passenger tire, yep.... Looking for some guidance on replacement. I called a local shop and they will only replace all 4 tires but it would be based on how much tread is left on the remaining 3. I assume since they have around 27,000 miles the amount of remaining tread does not qualify keeping them on. So my question is do I really need to replace all 4? Can I just do 2 (same axle)? or maybe even 1 if the tread is acceptable on the remaining tires (doubtful)? EDIT: I called my local Ford shop and they are recommending 2 tires since its 4WD and not AWD.
I recently bought a 2014 Explorer Sport. I don't do much off-road driving, but I need to drive on logging roads. Everyone seems to agree that the tires it came with, Hankook H429s, which are only 4 ply, are not well suited to logging roads and that I am likely to suffer flats if I use them. I therefore looked into buying more rugged tires. To my surprise, both an independent tire dealer and the Ford dealership tell me that no more rugged tire is available for my Explorer. I find this hard to believe - surely a common use of SUVs is on rough roads, or off road. Is there really no more rugged tire available?
Is there are resource I can use to check rim fitment across generations or models rather then asking with a new post every time I find a potential set? I have a 2000 4.0l XLT that currently has “32”s. (OEM was 255/70R16). I want to pick up rims with smaller tires that I can quickly change to for better towing once a year when we tow our camper. A lot of what I’m finding for sale are from 3rd gen explorers, most of wich have the wrong backspacing. Currently looking at 2003 ranger 16 rims.
